“Good place, but quite dark rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The hotel is a typical Intercontinental. It is about a 30 to 40 min drive from the airport - depending on the traffic. It is located in the heard of the city center of Chongqing.

Rooms are quite dark, with not too many lights. TV has all the usual channels, with CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, Cinemax and Discovery. There may have been some more movie channels. There was no DW.

Internet is LAN and WLAN based. It costs I think 100 RMB per day. I did not try it, so I cannot comment on the speed. WLAN in the lobby is free of charge with OK speed - VPN is working.

The bathroom has a walk in shower and a bathtub. Generally is the room not too large, but large enough. Electric plugs are in many places of the room, including next to the bed. Really good.
The beds are comfortable and quite soft for Chinese standards, hence "normal" for western standards.

Breakfast is on the 9th floor. There are not too many western dishes, however the cheeseselection was really good (for foreign managed hotels in China)

Staff was friendly and good. Maybe the hotel is slightly more expensive than other hotels in Chongqing, but it is for sure worth it.

Opposite of the hotel is a Starbucks, Pizzahut and a KFC, in case you need non-hotel food.

“What a bad intercontinental!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I'm an ambassador member of Intercontinental and I always try to use their hotels in my trips. So I did the same in Chingqing: never again!

The hotel is not at the level that one expects from Intercontinental. Hotel is old, rooms are old and almost no one in the hotel speak english.

Restrooms in the lobby where the dirtiest I saw in China!

Only positive thing the two kind lady working at the club lounge: they tried their best to help me.

Next tin in town I'll stay somewhere else!

“Good Location, Big Rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

The hotel is located on the pedestrian walking street near all the upmarket shops. You can actually walk to the Yangtze River if you want but going down is much easier than coming up. It is a very hilly city.

The lobby of the hotel is very average and I think it outrageous that there is a minimum charge to sit in the lobby bar / coffee shop when you are a guest of the hotel. With this option gone there is minimal seating in the lobby.

The rooms however are large and spacious with a comfortable king size bed and a sitting area. I do not understand, however, why a hotel of this caliber still has the box TV instead of flat screen model. The bathrooms are huge and have a separate shower and bath. The decor is very pleasant. Try to get a room with glimpses of the Yangtze River. You wont get a full view as there are many tall buildings blocking the view. I wish someone had taken me to the room and shown me how things work. Could not for the life of me work out how the air-conditioning operated and therefore it was hot and loud all night. needless to say I did not get a good nights sleep.

The restaurants in the hotel are very good. On the 9th floor is a seafood restaurant with an extensive buffet of all things including seafood, pizza, beef etc and a dessert bar. In the same restaurant breakfast is served and that also is a buffet with a very good selection.

On the 8th floor is an upmarket Chinese restaurant and here also the food is excellent. Although I should state that I was a guest of a very fancy and expensive lunch there.

All in all not a great hotel but very comfortable and convenient.

“When checking-in the hotel room.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

the room has yet to be cleaned up. I think this would only happen in any 3/4 stars hotel and not 5 stars….. but not really. Hotel’s facilities look very old. No in-room wifi internet, old model TV (very thick one), the ceiling shower in the bathroom keeps leaking cold water. The ventilation in the restaurant (the one for buffet breakfast) is very bad. There is an egg station area in the restaurant. The oily smell spread over the whole restaurant and also extended to the lift area. After having the breakfast, clothes and hairs were full of the oily smell. We went back to the room bathing and washing hairs shortly after the breakfast. Really bad!!!!! The good thing is the room is big and the bed is very comfortable.

“Comfortable hotel, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Located right next to the big shopping area in the city (which is currently being renovated to include even more of the high-end international brand-name stores) this hotel is where you want to be in the whole bustling city. The hotel itself is very clean, has a comfortable bed with fluffy pillows, and new-looking decor. The hotel staff go out of their way to please, and they generally speak pretty good English. The restaurant was nice, and they let you order off the menu with no problem.

The one puzzling thing to me was the bathroom -- even though I was in a non-smoking room, the bathroom always smelled like cigarettes. I suspect it was something to do with the vents, because it was like this for days. It was a lovely bathroom otherwise. Fortunately, the rest of the room did not smell of smoke. Perhaps it was just the room I was in?

Despite this on thing, I would certainly stay at this hotel again when back in Chongqing. It was a very comfortable and convenient place to stay. I had a great sleep.
