“A little over average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

This was probably one of the better 3 star hotels we stayed in , in Chongqing.

Rooms were spacious and comfortable with stone floors and a mock fireplace for aesthetics with an LCD TV above it; it also had a little balcony overlooking the Ehling Park. There is a wet market just a few metres down the road from the hotel which opens only in the morning where the locals would buy their fruits and vegetables.
As mentioned in other posts, the bathroom has windows looking into the bedroom which may be romantic for couples but rather inconvenient for roommates who are not keen or used to anyone watching them take a shower. But that is easily solved by lowering the window screen in the bathroom.

The buffet breakfast was probably the best we had of all the 3-4 star hotels we were put up by the agent. It had a good selection and choice of western and chinese dishes.

The location is somewhat away form the center of action so I would probably not choose this hotel if I return to Chongqing but would choose somewhere in the city eg Harbour Plaza for convenience and location.

“Large, pleasant rooms and a quiet location within Ehling Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

This smart 88 room hotel is built on a hill within Ehling Park, where you can watch local people doing Tai- Chi in the morning. Guest rooms are large and pleasant, with stone floors and a glass window between the bedroom and bathroom, and a glass shower cubicle so you can watch your partner showering. However do avoid the rooms at the end of the corridor above the kitchen or you will be assailed by cooking smells at 5.00 am. A kettle and tea bags are provided but if you prefer coffee you would be well-advised to bring a jar of your favourite brand to China with you. Do avoid the spa, which is geared to the particular requirements of Chinese businessmen. There is a decent Cantonese restaurant on the ground floor, and breakfast with Chinese and Western choices is served on the 4th floor between 7.00 and 10.00am.

Jiefangbei District, with its glassy modern tower blocks and pedestrian-only square, is the main commercial centre, a 20 yuan (US$ 3) taxi drive away. The sprawling city looks best at night so do try and catch a boat trip along the Yangzi to see the illuminated city.

“Glass screen between bedroom and bathroom - bizarre!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

Glass screen between bedroom and bathroom - bizarre! Hotel is set on a hill outside the main city area. Right next door to Erlin Park, which is a lovely place to walk round and for views over the city.

“OK if you don't have high expectations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2008

Stayed 5 nights at this hotel. Location is not the most convenient as the hotel is built on a hill within a public park. If you like waking up to the sounds of birds and join the people doing tai-chi in the park, then you will enjoy your stay. Major shopping and eating is located in Jiefangbei district, and that's about 20 minutes away by public bus or local taxi.

We arrived at the hotel from the airport very early in the morning - 2am. The front lobby was shut and all lights were off. The local guide had to wake the sleepy front desk staff and check-in took about 20 minutes. We had to pay for our first night in cash as the hotel did not accept credit card guarantees.

The staff explained that it was a standing instruction from their banks right before the Beijing Olympics. We found this rather strange, but we didn't argue since all we wanted to was to just go to bed. Since we only paid for the 1st night at check-in, we found that we were subsequently locked out of our rooms when we returned to the hotel in the afternoon of our 2nd day there.
Had to pay for the rest of our 4 nights' stay in cash before they reactivated our card keys so that we could go into our rooms!

Breakfast was rather standard and definitely catered to more to local tastes. Food from the Cantonese restaurant in the hotel was pretty good and service was adequate.

All in all, the impression is that this hotel caters more to domestic travellers rather than the international crowd.
