We stayed at the "Milky Way" in July 06. First impression-- not a great choice. The hotel is ok, but not the 4.5 star hotel our chinese travel agent described. When we arrived, we found it was in fact 3 stars. Smoky lobby, small elevator. The room was unusual. Gigantic, with high ceilings, and the biggest bed I've ever slept on. A nice wooden divan was an odd touch. The bathroom was clean, with a shower/bath AND a stand up shower. In-room refrigerator, water boiler. On the down side, the carpet was covered in various stains, and the room had a musty, ugly odor. When we arrived, we agreed that we'd stay one night (12 hour flight from US followed by 3 hour flight from Shanghai), and then find another place the next day. The complementary breakfast was typical of chinese hotels, not much for the western taste. The hotel is located in the center of town, just a couple blocks from the main square.
