“The good, the bad and the ugly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The good
- trendy
- walking distance to attractions and shops
- powerful humidifier to help you get through the dry weather of beijing
- really clean hotel and room service does a good job
- staff are friendly
- overall great value

The bad
- security is not present 24 hours
- doesn't treat everyone fairly, suits seem to get prioritisation over couples/families
- no free parking even though they confirmed it on the phone
- concierge doesn't work everyday
- rooms are tiny with almost no walking space
- free wireless internet is really slow

The ugly
- situated in the middle of an old strip of beijing, may or may not be your cup of tea
- the lifts are always filled with cig smoke

Room Tip: Ask to face away from the street and situated away from elevators, some of the guests can be quite l...

“Booking accomodation at Hotel Kapok.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I have recently booked a 7 night stay at Hotel Kapok for May 2012. I had a few concerns after reading some reviews regarding late/early am arrival and my room not being available due to my flight times. After speaking to Nina, my concerns are no longer concerns and have been put to rest. If you have any concerns or questions I strongly recommend emailing Nina who, I’m sure can answer your questions. Nina sounds friendly and it appears she is more than willing to help. AT this stage I can't review the hOtel any further but I’m positive my stay at Hotel Kapok will be great.

“Very Over hypedHotel, Stay else where!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Having read all the hype about this so called luxury hotel near Wanfujing, I booked two rooms for 5 nights for my family last week in Beijing. I have to admit I was rather disppointed to say the least and cannot undersatnd why this hotel is so highly rated by others! I have a few gripes. Firstly our room is a courtyard room which means there was a lot of glass areas and the heating system was appalling and we had to sleep every night with our socks on! The quilt was a filmsy thing which wasn't warm. The breakfast quite expensive by chinese standards was also very disappointing especially after 0900 when there was hardly any food left and they don't replenish. To add insult, whilst I was checking out in the reception, the girl asked me if we have used the mini bar and we don't as it was day light robbery. She used a walkie talkie and summoned house keeping ( in chinese) to do an urgent inspection of the rooms. I couldn't speak the language fluently but I can understand what was said. After I paid the final bill, it was reported that one of sons has actually used a small Nescafe coffee sachet which must be paid for at 26CNY. I told her proper hotels don't usally charge for such a small item besides it was not listed on the mini bar price list! Well, not wanting to end up in a chinese jail, I paid up - Would I stay here again, hell no, I rather be on the streets thanks!

Room Tip: We had a courtyard room, probably beststick to a nomal room in the winter. If you really want a good...

“Excellent location...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This is a contemporary modern hotel right in central Beijing, near to major tourists spots. Forbidden City is 10 minutes walk away, Wangfujing pedestrian shopping street is also about 10 minutes walk away. We booked a Fashion room but was upgraded to a courtyard room which unfortunately has a view of the block of apartment at the back of the hotel. Probably due to low season as we stayed here during the recent Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.
The room is medium size, but the bathroom is huge, the bed very comfortable, and a working wifi is a plus point.
Overall, its a good hotel to stay for the location in central beijing.

“Clean, Friendly and Extra Helpful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We had an excellent stay. The location is unbeatable but most of all the staff was so pleasant and attentive.

I would also take advantage of the front desk and book your trip to the great wall with them. You get your own van, guide and tour.
