“Has good points and....?”

There are better and worse hotels in Beijing. This is somewhere in the middle and looks good in its internet publicity. . Breakfast was good and rooms ….well OK but reeked of smoke. Bit short on lifts for the number of rooms and levels so expect to wait a little at busy times. Staff were helpful and enough English spoken but hotel not well equipped as a tourist base.

Location is not so wonderful if you are on foot as the surrounding area has seen better times. You can walk to major attractions such as Tianaman Square etc but allow at least 20-30 minutes. However, on the plus side 1 or 2 nearby restaurants that have good value local food and menus with enough pictures to help.

Room Tip: Try to find a room that has not had smokers in it.

Impressive lobby. Receptionists speak good English. Give good exchange rate for American dollars. Huge selection of food for breakfast. Terrible neighbourhood. Internet cafe and gift shop. Rooms not clean. Moldy grout in bathrooms. Internet not working in the room. Taxis don't want to take you back to this hotel. Taxis in front of this hotel only want to take you to the airport or the Great Wall. Beds are as hard as rocks..like sleeping on only the box spring.

Room Tip: Floors 12 to 14 are non-smoking.

“It Looks Better in the Photos”

This is a mediocre, typical tourist class hotel in a not-so-great area of Beijing. I like to walk the neighborhoods of where I stay -- but not here. Nothing of interest near the hotel, mostly a run-down, rather seedy area. Cleanliness was ok, but that old-dirt smell & long stale tobacco smell was very present. I don't think the curtains had been washed in 20 years. A bit of a glitch when checking in -- the not-too-friendly clerk wanted a voucher & I did not have one. I had paid the travel agency & they had arranged all my hotels. My Chinese guide had to do some fast talking & make some phone calls before it was finally agreed I had a room. There were several tour groups when I was there, all were European. Breakfast was a buffet w/ good choices. The hotel has a nice little store for sundries, a very small lobby bar & a "coffee shop" which is a nice place to relax & get a sandwich. This place is OK, but overall I wouldn't recommend it. I would think there must be other average places in better neighborhoods with cleaner rooms.

“Fine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

As with everything in life you get what you pay for. This hotel is clean and well maintained and we had nothing to complain about. Many people have said that the hotel is far from everything but Beijing is so large that even if you are close to one attraction you are far from another. The receptionists also speak some English which can be useful.

“Clean Hotel but too far from everything”

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour in late September. There seemed to be quite a few tour groups here. The rooms were clean, we had 2, but the beds took some getting used to. Very hard, but we found this everywhere in China. Friendly, efficient staff at front desk. Good range of tasty food for breakfast. Something for everyone. On a map, shops and attractions look very close. Not so... The big shopping mall that leads up to Maos mausoleum ( Qianmen Dajie) took about 40 minutes to walk to and we were walking at a brisk pace. Would probably stay in a more central spot next time.

Room Tip: We had rooms high up in the newer building. Had a great view of the Mausoleum, Tiananmen Square etc.
