“Great stay in Beijing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

This is the second I have stayed in this hotel with my family, the first time was about 3 years ago. Still a very nice place to stay, the staff still remember us...... Like going back to stay with old friends. Nice, friendly and clean, staff are alway helpful. Staff are very much willing to assist and recommend great places to eat. Very cozy. Great location. Will definitely go back to stay again and again and again. Just one small flaw, the shower is not that great, as it is common supply for hot water certain timing the water will not be hot at all, imagine when it is a cold day. The supply of the tolietries is just very basic.

“Nice hutong hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

My husband and I stayed in this hutong hotel for 2 nights. Upon arrival in Beijing, we took a cab at the airport. However, our cab driver was not familiar with the address. Luckily, i had reserached quite extensively before hand and had managed to get the exact driving location to the hotel via google map. However, when we reached the lane, which is yan yue hutong, our cab was not able to enter the hutong as there are road works being done. We ended up dragging our luggages all the way in. Fortunately, the walk was less than 10 minutes.

Anyways, upon check in, we were informed that we have been upgraded from our superior suite to a deluxe suite. The room was very nice, with a living area. The only set back is that since the tv is in the living area, we didn't have a tv in the bedroom area...so we couldn't watch tv while lying in bed. As for the rest of the rooms, the decor and furnitures were a blend of modern and chinese traditional pieces. The bed is really comfortable, not too soft and not too hard...but may be a bit high if you are not too tall. I'm 5'6" and still find it a bit high. But for most westerners, i guess it is really perfect.

Our room had a deep bathtub which is especially nice after a long day spent walking in the cold. It was a treat to be able to sink into a tub of hot water to soak off the chill and the sore muscle.

The breakfast, as mentioned in many previous reviews, was fantastic. I love their bread, especially their sesame toast...thick, chewy and nicely toasted. The yugurt with muesli is also fantastic. yummy....

If there is anything that we don't like, it was probably the smell of sewage that is quite common in most hutong hotels. It is not too bad if you keep the ventilation on at all times...including at night when you sleep...but it's either the humming sound or the smell.

Other than the smell, i would say that this is a very nice hotel to stay in if you want a different expereince than staying in the usual international hotels.

“Could not recommend this place enough!”

We had such a lovely time in Beijing and one of the biggest reasons was Hotel Cote Cour. The hutong location was perfect and off the beaten path. You felt like you were staying someplace secret and special and tucked away. The rooms were tastefully decorated and provided warmth in the October chilly weather. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning was delicious!!! I hesitate to recommend this place because I hope it does not get too popular...don't want it to be full when I come back again to Beijing!

“Great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Great location. Unique opportunity to experience hutong life which is in decline . Haven of calm in hectic Beijing . Super breakfast . Very polite staff. Only word of caution is that it can be unnerving late at night arriving to a hotel in a warren of alley ways. Howevere once the sun rises you realise you were safe all the time.

“An oasis mid Beijing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Cote Cour provided an oasis home amid the bustle of Beijing, and getting to walk through the alleys of the hutong provided us not only a glimpse into life today in Beijing, but also numerous spots to eat after a day of touring. The breakfasts excelled, the rooms were clean, tidy, and the friendly staff exceeded our expectations. The interior courtyard provided a restful spot to wind down and plan for the upcoming day--and the resident cats really made this seem like home. We've traveled to China numerous times, but this trip--because of Cote Cour--was exceptional!

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent!
