My husband and I stayed in this hutong hotel for 2 nights. Upon arrival in Beijing, we took a cab at the airport. However, our cab driver was not familiar with the address. Luckily, i had reserached quite extensively before hand and had managed to get the exact driving location to the hotel via google map. However, when we reached the lane, which is yan yue hutong, our cab was not able to enter the hutong as there are road works being done. We ended up dragging our luggages all the way in. Fortunately, the walk was less than 10 minutes.
Anyways, upon check in, we were informed that we have been upgraded from our superior suite to a deluxe suite. The room was very nice, with a living area. The only set back is that since the tv is in the living area, we didn't have a tv in the bedroom area...so we couldn't watch tv while lying in bed. As for the rest of the rooms, the decor and furnitures were a blend of modern and chinese traditional pieces. The bed is really comfortable, not too soft and not too hard...but may be a bit high if you are not too tall. I'm 5'6" and still find it a bit high. But for most westerners, i guess it is really perfect.
Our room had a deep bathtub which is especially nice after a long day spent walking in the cold. It was a treat to be able to sink into a tub of hot water to soak off the chill and the sore muscle.
The breakfast, as mentioned in many previous reviews, was fantastic. I love their bread, especially their sesame toast...thick, chewy and nicely toasted. The yugurt with muesli is also fantastic. yummy....
If there is anything that we don't like, it was probably the smell of sewage that is quite common in most hutong hotels. It is not too bad if you keep the ventilation on at all times...including at night when you sleep...but it's either the humming sound or the smell.
Other than the smell, i would say that this is a very nice hotel to stay in if you want a different expereince than staying in the usual international hotels.
