“If you want an experience beyond a marble & gold hotel lobby...”

this cozy and convenient B&B is a great alternative to get a feel for the real Beijing. It is located in an authentic hutong area steps from Beihai Park, the tourist attractions around Qianhai, the neighborhood of the princes' palaces, and the Drum and Bell Towers. The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Qianmen are within walking distance; the nearest Metro stop is a long walk. It is fun to explore the alleys right outside the door, from small shops for locals to tourist gift stores, coffee places, and even Beard Papa. Angela and her helper, Julia, kindly see to your every need. Angela will give you maps, directions, and recommendations, as well as book tours, check on your flight, and arrange a taxi for you. Our room was very comfortable, with a modern bathroom, flat-screen TV (only Chinese channels), free wifi, and plenty of heat for Beijing's frigid February temperatures. There was an ample Chinese breakfast every morning, more than we could eat.

We saw demolition and construction all around the area. Stay here and experience the old Beijing while you still can! It was a great place to stay. We highly recommend it.

“So glad we stayed here!”

My sister and I stayed at the Maoer, and all the wonderful things people have said and described are absolutely true. Great location, Angela showed us how to use bus and metro, and the B&B is also close to a street where we could also take taxis, and to a lake with many restaurants. The breakfasts were wonderful, the rooms (we stayed in two different ones) were great, the willingness to help by Angela and Julia, outstanding. Angela helped us by providing maps and information on sightseeing. We went to the Great Wall with a driver recommended by her and everything went very well. Highly recommended!

“A wonderful place to stay”

There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said, but I think it is worth repeating. This is a wonderful place to stay in Beijing. The rooms are lovely and super clean, the B & B is quiet and smoke free, the food is great, the location is good and Angela and Julia are so helpful. It was like a little oasis in my China trip and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

“Mao'er B&B is great during week of December 1, 2011.”

The Mao'er B&B is a great three guest room B&B in a lively hutong area.  Outstanding management too.  We recommend the deluxe room but others are just fine.  The furnishings were made in the old style by the uncle of manager Angela Wang.   Angela also has a list of contacts and places to visit and eat--if you need suggestions. Breakfasts are Chinese style--for example, rice, omelet and veggies.

The Mao'er B&B  located on Mao'er Hutong and is about 100 yards from Nan Luo Gu Xiang. We were captivated by the Nan Luo Gu Xiang area, the main tourist hutong in the area of the B&B.  We even found a, hard to find, brew pub called "the Great Leap" less than a five min walk into the hutong north of us and Angela steered us to a fantastic Szechwan restaurant.

Suggest you ask your taxi driver to call the B&B ahead to ensure you have no problems finding the Mao'er Hutong B&B.

“Almost Perfect Place”

I have stayed at Maoer 28 several times, and the location is great for getting to many of the Must See places in Beijing, The manager and assistant manager do a great job. My last stay did have some disappointment, because throughout the B and B are English and Chinese signs NO SMOKING. Sadly this policy is not enforced! Some careless Americans were staying there and I found one outside my room at 5am smoking away. The smoke was going everywhere, but they refused to smoke outside, and the Manager did not insist on it.

A transfer tip from the airport; it is nice to be picked up by the Hotel drivers, but the charge is double from taking just a regular taxi. I took taxi off the street, and it was 85 yuan, and the hotel charge is 200 yuan.

Room Tip: Room C is good.
