“Overall, A Good Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Just back from an 8 night stay at this hotel. After having read other reviews, I expected to find the hotel off the beaten path and away from most everything. This was simply not the case. The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from a couple of subway stations, a taxi ride to the tourist areas was quick and inexpensive. We did not have any problems getting around the city from the hotel.

Our room was a standard room with 2 beds, it had every amenity that we needed, and was more than adequate for 2 people to spend time in. The bathroom was a good size; it had a full size tub (not used) and a large separate shower.

I agree with other contributors that the hotel is starting to look a bit dated, but this should not be a deciding factor about the hotel, as the building is extremely clean and we did not see any obvious outstanding maintenance issues.

We did eat in the hotel a couple of times, and we enjoyed the food and the service.

The best part about the hotel was the service. Every staff member that we came into contact with was friendly and helpful.

As a Starwood’s Platinum member, we had access to the Club Lounge, and I can only wish that the other hotels in the chain offered this level of service. The food and the service was excellent. The staff in the lounge also helped us with restaurant reservations, gave us helpful suggestions about what tourist areas to see and where the best shopping was. (thanks Rock!)

Would I recommend this hotel? YES! I am planning a return trip in May of this year.

“first time at Westin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I went to Beijing, China in the year 2007, and stayed at the Westin hotel. Beijing has so many hotels, it was very hard to pick, so it was just a random selection.

I remembered that the hotel was very beautiful, clean, well kept. My hotel room was spectacular, and had a jacuzzi, which I didn't ask for. King size bed was super comfortable.

I didn't stay in the hotel that much. Staff did speak English, so I was happy about that. Not sure about the amenities, however, I did use their computers every day, and I just wanted to say when I came back to Canada, my debit card apparently was hacked in Beijing, so just wanted to warn people about that.

Overall, the experience was nice. It was a bit far from the shopping area, and quite a few taxis never even heard of this hotel, which was weird, maybe because there are so many to remember.

Beijing is not that cheap. I make over above average income in Canada, and I couldn't even afford most of the things in Beijing. Lots of their merchandises are more expensive than purchasing it in North America, so if you don't know the ins and outs of Beijing, and if you don't choose to eat the local foods, then your wallet is in for a big surprise.

Having said all that, Beijing or China is a wonderful and spectacular country to visit, so when you do have a chance, go visit there once in your life time.

“Horrible Service - Tour group hotel - Not a 5 star business hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Ive stayed at the Westin 4 times in 2011. I even gave the Westin Fin street a chance to host a 1 day seminar/conference that would have cost about US$20k including conference rooms, hotel rooms, food, etc. However this business wasn't important to them and the hotel was not interested in impressing me with their conference rooms and sales service. For all of you looking to do a small seminar day in beijing, offsite etc - dont stay here.

I hosted a breakfast in the chinese restaurant for 7 people - it took 4 requests for some ice water to be brought to my table. They had about 6 waiters but it seemed that no one could actually do anything. The water finally came after about 12 minutes. When one of my guests ordered congee (its a buffet congee but u need to place orders) it took 25 mins before the congee came and we had to request it about 5 times. The check took about 7 mins to come as well. This is INEFFICIENCY at its best. The waiters had no care for service and there was no urgency. If you're going for business and need to host breakfast mtgs, dont go here.

3 out of my 4 trips there was strong cigarette smell in my room. The solution - not to change room but to have some housekeeping staff come in and spray some perfume. Only made the situation worse.

2/4 times the water pressure was so weak i couldnt get the shampoo out of my short hair.

Yes heavenly beds - but whats the benefit when the room smells bad. I felt as if i was in a days inn or home inns - i will never stay in the westin fin street nor will i allow staff to stay at this hotel.

One last thing, the breakfast buffet is jammed with tour groups - if you want to have a quiet bfast, dont stay here. And im not talking 8/9am, im talking 6/7am. The hotel clearly caters to large tour groups and large domestic customers, again if that's your thing, go for it, it's not mine. For RMB 1200-1400 a night, there's a lot of hotels to choose, i recommend you go down the street and a block over to the Ritz Carlton.

“Good Hotel in Quiet Location. Not much else in the area.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The hotel is well staffed with assistance anytime you need it. The rooms are a little dated but is clean and well managed. It is everything you expect in a 4-Star hotel. The buffet and their restaurants serve good food. It's your best choice for good food unless you want to travel by car elsewhere. There are some quickserve food establishments across the street as well as an upscale shopping center.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Free WiFi and great breakfast! Very comfy room. Nice Gym, and there's an indoor heated pool. Starbucks, banks, and some restaurants(Ramen, TGI Fridays ...) around, and a big shopping mall right across the street. But subway station is a bit far.
