“Wish Could Stay Longer..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

During the Chinese' New Year, I decided to visit Beijing with my family, to experience the REAL Chinese new year festival. Honestly, in the beginning, I was little hesitating whether I'm choosing the right place for the vacation or not, since we are traveling by ourselves without any assistance. However, as soon as I arrived in this hotel, I realized there is nothing to be concerned about. Although it is my first time with the Ritz-Carlton, it didn't take me long time to find out why so many people are enthusiastic about Ritz-Carlton. So I would like to share some point I felt from this hotel.

-Even though hotel is well known for best business hotel, it is also very conveniently located for the tourists, especially for the foreigners. Since the hotel near the central place of Beijing, we were able to go anywhere in the city with in 30~40mins. (Not crowded at this time)
-The suite room that we stay was very well furnished and large enough for our family to stay at comfort, and the housekeeping services were very consistent.(Offered 2 cleaning service everyday). So the room was always stay flawless, always feel like at home. Very impressed about the modern bathtub design, and whole marble floor was well balance with room feature.
-Excellent concierge and the front desk team; very well knowledge about Beijing, able to answer every question at no hesitation, and also all of the recommended places were outstanding, nothing more to say. They impressed us from the beginning day of our trip, even ask them to plan our rest of the trip too! Always seem happy to engaging with the guest; at the end of the trip we all become good "FRIENDS". We were able to experience "CHINA" at any difficulties.
-Breakfast restaurant is very well organized, very easy to locate different station. Were able to enjoy the nice sunshine breakfast every day! All the servers have warm smile, and always attentive of every details. Have both American and Asian style of breakfast, have variety of choice.

Last but not the least, the hotel always made us feel like home, and gave me a BIG surprise for making a birthday party at the end of our trip. It was not a big party but SOMETHING for me because, none of the hotel I've been so far have offered me this sincere care for the guests. Truly impressed about the 'Ritz-Carlton Service,' of how much they care about the guests needs and the comfort. Can't wait to experience more Ritz in the near future.

Room Tip: The room facing the park side would be good for business people (The room is quieter)

“This Ritz Disappoints”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Spent 2 nights before the Chinese New Year and was really disappionted with this Ritz -- Marriott hardware and Holiday Inn services!

The good:
- Good location for those working/visiting the offices in the Finanical Street area;
- Good food (lunch) at the Italian restaurant Cepe;

The disappiontments:
- Many taxi drivers don't know this hotel (the Westin is much better known), so I had to use the office building next to it as a reference (as advised by a taxi driver);
- Very difficult to get a taxi (cold weather?) -- I waited for more than 20 minutes one evening;
- The property is showing its age (but only opened in 2007), with stained carpets and worn furniture in the public area and dated design in the guest room;
- Poor fitting out quality makes the room feel dirty;
- Difficult to watch TV while working at desk due to weird angle;
- None of the room phone shortcuts (housekeeping, concierge, etc.) was working;

Now the real disappointment: subpar service.

- They preferred to transfer me around whenever I called for service (to concierge, to housekeeping, to gift shop) rather than handling my request on the spot. I wish they had the Marriott AYS (At Your Service) button on the room phone so that I don't have to figure out whom to call or be transferred around. When I mentioned this to the front desk manager, she snobbishly replied "oh that's a Marriott thing, we're Ritz and we don't use that". Huh?!

- My electric toothbrush ran out of battery, and I wanted to show a friend (who's a hotel industry veteran) "the legendary Ritz service" by asking the front desk where I could get a AA battery for my toothbrush, and she promptly pointed to me the direction to their gift shop. Shocked and speechless, we made a 2nd attempt by calling from my room and once again, the operator offered to transfer me to their gift shop. This for sure was NOT the Ritz I knew -- gift shop for a AA battery, really?!

- Because of the upcoming CNY holidays, breakfast was not busy -- there were more staff than guests at the restaurant, but the staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than servicing the guests. My coffee cup and OJ glass were both empty and nobody offered to refill for 15 minutes until I signaled; the chef at the egg station was nowhere to be found; an older gentleman sitting next to my table decided to light up a cigarette after his breakfast, and I could see and smell the smoke 10 feet away after getting my fruits but no one, with all the freely chatting staff, tried to stop the man until I called the manager over. The shopping mall food court had more attentive staff!!

With all the other good reviews on Tripadvisor, I might have been just an unlucky guest. But a string of consistent bad luck usually reflects something more systemic. This Ritz is really subpar and truly disappointed.

“I love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Having lived next to the hotel for years, I finally decided to spend a weekend getaway there.
The hotel looks so appealing from the outside, and I can say it does so from the inside too. Compared with Westin closeby, this one has a more intimate sense. But, the lobby looks a little bit small. It can get really crowded sometimes.
The room is flawless, say no more. There are tons of tv channels available, which is different from other major hotels in China.
In sum, I love this place, and am glad that it is next to where I live.
The Italian restaurant is fabulous, wonderful, and expensive. Do try that if you have the chance.

“Best business hotel in the Financial District”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I run a China equities business at an investment bank and I travel to Beijing monthly. I recently gave the Ritz Carlton Beijing Fin St. an opportunity to host a key 1 day seminar/conference for my firm. The Ritz absolutely delivered. The coordinators and sales staff were impeccable and this hotel is one of the FEW that balances China's 5 star hotel challenge of 'good hardware, bad software.'

The Ritz service was fantastic - the rooms are large, extremely comfortable and I almost give this a 5 star rating.

I found the food to be OK - the breakfast buffet was ok - but I had Club lounge access and the food there is good, its a worthy upgrade as its quiet and you can host key clients up there for a minor charge.

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times and this is now my go to hotel for Beijing trips. Ive also stayed at the Park Hyatt, the Westin Fin Street and the Ritz HUamao. This is my favorite, i'd def bring my wife and son here too if we were to visit Beijing together.

DO NOT STAY at the Westin Fin Street - i will be writing a separate report on that hotel, I stayed there 3 times, and I regret going back there more than once.

“Nice hotel and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

As expected the same room and service for the Ritz. Hotel is small and off to the West of Beijing (Most other hotels are in the east of Beijing) The concierge is helpful. Buffet Breakfast and Dinner are pretty good China standard. Indoor pool is nice and rectangular so it is good for lap swim.
The jetted spa is very relax set up. Everybody sould try it. Sauna is small but adequate.
Subway is about 10 minute walking and for 2 Yuan you can go any distance.
Taxi is readily available, just tell the bell man.
