“Okay hotel: not bad, not luxorious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2011

I spent few nights at the hotel and had the advantage of having a local guy as my translator/guide who helped getting the most out of the hotel. Only few members of staff spoke English, for instance a call to the room service took several people to find someone with English skills.

Fairly large and clean enough room with comfy bed (not very soft though), massive pillows (had to ask slim ones for me). Dozens of local TV stations, a PC (with Chinese language) in the room with an internet access. A minibar. Iron and a board had to be requested separately.

Okay breakfast, good local food in the restaurant, but lacking atmosphere... Avoid "the international restaurant" offering in the evenings and go for the Chinese stuff instead.

Bar in the lobby was always empty in the evenings.

By Chinese standards this is probably 4-5 star hotel, 2-3 by western standards.

Room Tip: Ask a room far away from the noicy elevators.

“Not a great choice for a visit to Beijing; Okay for business”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2011

I stayed here for 3 nights on business, and the selection of this hotel was made by my hosts because it was close to our meetings. It seemed to me that no one in the hotel actually spoke English, and no one really understood what I was asking about. Also, the area of the hotel is not a touristy area. The pluses were that the room was sufficient for one person, there was free internet in the lobby (wireless) and free use of a computer (wired) in the room. They serviced the room very nicely each day, so the room was clean and neat. The hotel has no fitness center or swimming pool. So, fine for business but not a good choice for leisure or tourists.

“You know what - it's not bad!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2010

This was the second time I had stayed at this hotel while in Beijing for a week at work. I have no choice as to where I stay as the hotel is booked by the company I am working with over there and as they own this hotel, it's where I go!

They've made a slight effort over the past year to make the rooms a little nicer and I have to say, the bed is as big and comfy as any I have slept in (I like 'em hard!)

The rooms are very clean and the shower in the bathroom is excellent. There is also free internet access (or as much 'access' as you get to the internet in China anyway...) In my book, clean rooms, comfy bed and good shower and you're on to a winner.

Price-wise, I have never seen a bill but I am told it is pretty reasonable.

Down sides are that not many of the staff speak English and dining at the hotel is very expensive compared to other restaurants in the vicinty.

So, if you want a pretty decent standard of hotel for a smaller price than you will pay if you stay in an international chain, this would be a good choice. If you want somewhere totally stress-free where all the staff speak great English and you can eat and drink in the hotel the whole team, maybe look elsewhere.

Feel free to message me for more specifics.

“Media Center okay, not great - very limited in necessities”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2008

I have stayed at this hotel twice. Once in 2005 and now the redone version in 2008. Thought the update for the Olympics is good - it leaves some things to be desired. There isn't a designated deluxe floor with no smoking rooms. The staff has limited English - a must for the Olympic Media. There isn't a convenience store with things like drinks, snacks, books and regular hotel needs for a traveller. The restaurants though better than 2005 now are limited to in some cases to Olymplc people only - very frustrating for regular visitors as there are few options near this hotel within walking distance. There isn't a good western breakfast and no fitness facilities. For someone here more than a day or two it is very unsupported. The hours of operation for restaurants is until 9pm only for all locations. There is a very limited room service menu. Here's the kicker, you can't charge to your room. The other thing is that the western restaurant has nobody in it - still they will not let you in unless you are an Olympic accredited person.

The upside, the staff tries really hard, they are great at cleaning your room and have hearts of gold. That you can't find everywhere.

When I found I was staying here I said no. Then I heard they changed it. The changes are better - not perfect.

  • Liked — Close to where I was working - GREAT kindness in staff - they really tried to help me
  • Disliked — Not enough ammenities - fitness gym - stores - restaurant hours
