“Book for convenience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

I stayed at the North Garden hotel for business. Centrally located, which is a plus in the maze that is Beijing. If you have zero sense of direction and are intimidated to go out at night without a guide this is the place to stay. Everything we were looking for is within a quick stroll.

The staff didn't have as warm of hospitality I'd expect a hotel to have; but I noticed this was common for hotel staff in Beijing, especially with foreigners.

The room itself was average but clean. Nothing terribly impressive but I still believe I'd stay here again if I ever find myself in Beijing. Like other reviews have said before: you really can't beat the location!

“Best location in Beijing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We stayed at Beijing North Garden hotel for 3 nights at end of Oct 2011. We enjoyed our stay.

The best part of the hotel is its prime location on the first block of the busiest Wanfujing street, the start of this prime tourist pedestrian shopping street which is full of big fancy departments stores, huge bookstore next door, alleys full of small stalls and food stands are just steps away. It is located in the trendy new Mall of the Orient complex where Grand Hyatt is located but at the fraction of the price. It is approx. 3 minutes walk from the WFJ subway station, across the street from 24HRS McDonalds which has a dedicated coffee counter, surrounded by hundreds of restaurants and shops and shopping malls. Each nightly casual stroll discovered even more surprises on the main street and side alleys.

The front desk ladies are reserved without smile, but they warm up later and proved to be helpful. When we asked them to make a restaurant reservation, they were puzzled, obviously they have never done it before for a guest, but soon complied. The concierge bellboy doesn’t seem to know much but front desk ladies tend to cut in fast to help out.

We had a very spacious executive suite on the top 11th floor with open living room with sofa and 360 degree flat screen TV, smaller queen bed, safe, fridge and small bathroom, all seem clean and safe. The carpet is tan color, may seem old and dirty to some picky ones, but it looks clean to me upon closer exam. The executive lounge on 12th floor is no longer operational and locked up. No free breakfast and we did not bother to check, as we left for Great Wall and sights very early in the morning.

There is constantly stream of empty taxis driving pass the hotel after they dropped off passengers at Wanfujing main street half a block away, so finding a taxi is very easy. The front door is guarded by policemen 24 hours a day. No card needed to go upstairs. Elevators are always ready and fast, very few people around.

Taxi to PEK airport from hotel was easy, luggage out, taxi came instantly, load and gone. We reached airport at 8AM in 30 minutes in slow driving in thick fog, 80rmb plus 10rmb toll, total 90rmb.

It is not a luxury hotel, 3 stars, but clean and spacious, with the best location in Beijing, everything is just steps away, we were very satisfied with Beijing North Garden Hotel.

Room Tip: Book a suite for big space, still 1/4 price of nearby Grand Hyatt small room.

“Location, Location, Location.”

I just returned from Beijing and this was my fourth stay at the North Garden Hotel. I again had a nice stay. The staff spoke fairly good English and my check-in and check-out was a breeze. They did not take my credit card for deposit but did ask for a 500RMB deposit which they returned to me at check-out. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was firm, just the way I like it. The bathroom could use a little sprucing up as the tiles were cracked and the shower curtain had some spots. For some reason during my third stay at the North Garden Hotel, I was not provided any toiletries. This last stay, they provided me with a tray full of toiletries, shampoos, shower gels, toothbrush/paste, comb and shower cap, Also, the carpets could use a good cleaning or at least a good spot remover. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to everything. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. The metro is a few minutes walk and is inside the Oriental Plaza Mall. Nice supermarket and food court restaurants in the mall. Tianneman Square and the Forbidden City is within walking distance or one metro stop away. I have stayed at hotels in Beijing that were not near a metro line and I got blisters on my feet from all the walking. No blisters since staying at the North Garden. Just remember that the hotel is not on the Wangfujing but is actually on a side street off the Wangfujing. It's very easy to find if you know that it is just behind the large Wangfujing Bookstore next to the Oriental Plaza Mall. I will definitely be using this hotel again for my next stay in Beijing. The price is right and the location is excellent.

“Exceeded Our Expectations”

Booked via Travelzen (all good) for 4 nights. It met all requirements, most important being location. The check in was quick and the staff were serious but sweet trying very hard to understand our Australian accents. The hotel rooms are stock standard for the price range, clean well maintained, good size bathroom with white fluffy towels. It has tea facilities recommend bringing your own tea/coffee brands. Only negative is the room had a window that faced the central court area with no natural light. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. This hotel is located on the back of Sun Dong Plaza on a side street. Fantastic location on Wanfujing Street, walk to Forbidden City, use the subway, buy from Supermarket. We also booked a tour through the hotel and taxis were easy to use. There is a food street in the basement of the plaza has great little restaurants. Entrance to the subway was in the basement of the plaza too. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its location and conveniences. Great city.

“perfect location in a city that has changed”

The North Garden has what would be 3 star rooms in the US but will stay there every visit from now on. It is a superb value. I got it for about $100 a night. . The location is unbeatable. Between Wan Fu Jing walking street, Peking Union Med Center, Tianamen Sq and Forbidden Palace you could spend a week here and be endlessly entertained. I strolled the Wan Fu jing street each night . It was July and hot at at least 31c, The English is limited but people try to help. Printing out on a smart phone often helps as locals seem to read better than understand the spoken word. I needed a lamp and after several failed attempts took a picture. A lamp appeared 10 minutes later. The concierge and bell captain were fine. The Spa has hidden charges so beware there.

Room Tip: Use a fax and keep a copy. All rooms are pretty good from what I could see.
