I just stayed in the Sunworld Dynasty for two nights while on a business trip. First off, the property is nice. Rooms are decent size and are very clean. I was checked in quickly and efficiently and had prompt, courteous service at the front desk. I requested a wakeup call the next morning and received a personal call, which is kind of unusual in these days of everything being automated. I have no complaints about the property or the service at all. Overall I thought both were very good.
The hotel is also in a very nice location. Just a couple blocks down the road is a nice upscale shopping area, complete with a pedestrian only street lined with street vendors. There are back alleyways full of night markets selling everything from traditional Chinese wares, to counterfiet goods, to street foods (fried snakes on a stick, anybody?). A very interesting experience for those who have never truy experienced Chinese culture, and within easy walking distance of the hotel. Tianamen Square is also very close - about 20 minutes walking time and 3 minutes by taxi.
I only have two complaints about the Sunworld Dynasty. First off, it's in a bit of a noisy location. It isn't the fault of the hotel at all, but right across the street is a Catholic cathedral with a courtyard where all kinds of noisy events tend to happen. On my first night, there was some kind of community dance thing going on until 10 PM, and the music was quite loud. I was looking forward to going to sleep early that night but it was impossible due to the noise level outside. Second of all, I found the hotel restaurants to be not very good. Breakfast was ok - pretty standard for business class hotels in China with a large buffet consisting of both Western and Chinese items, along with fresh fruit and pastries, but the dinners I had there left a lot to be desired. I tried both the main restaurant (which is Western style) and the Chinese restaurant and both had average food at best.
Overall I would stay here again based on the location, quality of the room, and the reasonable price for a hotel at this level.
Room Tip: Try to stay away from the Catholic church due to noise levels. Get a room on the opposite side of t...
