“It will do :)”

My wife and I stayed here in December. We were booked here by my father's associate. It looks like a typical business hotel both inside and out. However, bearing in mind the hit-or-miss hotel selections in China if you don't know anyone, we were lucky to end up here.

PROS:

- Check in (and check out) was both quick and efficient.
- Rooms of adequate size, good quality furnishings, and always cleaned.
- Windows can be opened when the heater gets too hot.
- Most tourist attractions (Forbidden City, Silk Market, Malls) within a 20RMB (yuan) taxi radius from the hotel.
- Wangfujing, a major shopping district is a 2 block walk away. (Not much to buy though!)

CONS:

- Buffet Breakfast (blech! but it was free)
- Very dim central atrium.
- Skimpy with toilet paper, not the good kind either.

In short, don't expect to be impressed but you will appreciate it's convenience.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms have street views, even numbered ones face the atrium. Dengshikou St. at the side...

“Great location near the night market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

This hotel is not so well known among westerners, so they have mainly chinese/asian guests, which is a pity. We had stayed earlier this year at the Kapok Hotel (which is good) but prices were too high and we decided to try the Sunworld.
The check in was easy and fast, the room and bathroom had a good size and nice decor. You find all the "normal" bathroom amenities plus good thick bath robes. If you want to relax after a whole walking day, the bathtub is of good size and is separated from the room by a glass wall, so you can even watch tv from your "spa". There's iron, ironing board, and electric kettle for coffee and tea.
The concierge was very helpful helping us to buy train tickets to Xian (you get the tickets at the hotel) and getting taxis. "Getting taxis" seems a silly comment since that is expected from a hotel, right? But getting a taxi in Beijing is a mission!! So, use the subway as much as you can.
Breakfast is varied, catering to westerners and asians, although not of high quality. We didn't have any meal at the hotel because there's so many options around. There's Starbucks, Costa Cafe and a very good japanese restaurant in the basement of a shopping mall two blocks away from hotel.
The famous night market, with all the weird kebabs, is a 2 min walk from the hotel. A couple blocks down on Wangfujing Ave you find the commercial area with upscale shops, local and traditional shops, lots of restaurants besides the alleyways with street food. Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City is within 20 min walking distance.
In front of hotel there's a church where every night people of all ages gather to dance at the courtyard. Very fun to watch!
We had a good english guide (Jack, 13810496942) driving us to the Great Wall and Summer Palace.
Definitely this is the place to stay if you want to experience the local chinese way.

“Decent hotel in good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

I just stayed in the Sunworld Dynasty for two nights while on a business trip. First off, the property is nice. Rooms are decent size and are very clean. I was checked in quickly and efficiently and had prompt, courteous service at the front desk. I requested a wakeup call the next morning and received a personal call, which is kind of unusual in these days of everything being automated. I have no complaints about the property or the service at all. Overall I thought both were very good.

The hotel is also in a very nice location. Just a couple blocks down the road is a nice upscale shopping area, complete with a pedestrian only street lined with street vendors. There are back alleyways full of night markets selling everything from traditional Chinese wares, to counterfiet goods, to street foods (fried snakes on a stick, anybody?). A very interesting experience for those who have never truy experienced Chinese culture, and within easy walking distance of the hotel. Tianamen Square is also very close - about 20 minutes walking time and 3 minutes by taxi.

I only have two complaints about the Sunworld Dynasty. First off, it's in a bit of a noisy location. It isn't the fault of the hotel at all, but right across the street is a Catholic cathedral with a courtyard where all kinds of noisy events tend to happen. On my first night, there was some kind of community dance thing going on until 10 PM, and the music was quite loud. I was looking forward to going to sleep early that night but it was impossible due to the noise level outside. Second of all, I found the hotel restaurants to be not very good. Breakfast was ok - pretty standard for business class hotels in China with a large buffet consisting of both Western and Chinese items, along with fresh fruit and pastries, but the dinners I had there left a lot to be desired. I tried both the main restaurant (which is Western style) and the Chinese restaurant and both had average food at best.

Overall I would stay here again based on the location, quality of the room, and the reasonable price for a hotel at this level.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the Catholic church due to noise levels. Get a room on the opposite side of t...

“Pleasant 4 day stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Stayed 4 days with a party of 4 adults and 2 infants. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. After reading some of the negative posts here on tripadvisor I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hotel. It is located just off the northern end of the WangFuJing pedestrian precinct and a 20 minute walk to the Forbidden City.

The only grief we had was with Beijing taxi drivers which cannot be blamed on the hotel. The Beijing authorities really need to do something about their taxi service, It really sucks!!!

We booked via Ctrip and got a rate of RMB 1008 per night including 1 breakfast, extra breakfasts were RMB 100. Buffet breakfast was good with all the basics.

“avoid this place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

I just spent a week at the Sunworld Dynasty. While on the surface it seems like an ok place, unfortunately it falls short in too many areas to make it a destination worth visiting. As noted in previous posts, the rooms are pretty clean. Unfortunately the walls are paper and the food is among the worst I've experienced in the entire country. This neighborhood has several other options that I'd consider before staying here again. The Crown Plaza accross the street seems to be a much better choice and the Hilton around the corner looks amazing. The Sunworld Dynasty is a flop.
