Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. The location is way off the city central and not very conveniently located. The shops are limited around the area, and the nearest mini mart is across the road at the petrol station. There were a few street vendors selling fruits just right outside the hotel.

The rooms are average and the lighting certainly needs improvement as it was rather dim. No issue with the sleep quality.

Breakfast was average and you are supposed to look for your own table. At times, that could be quite difficult as it could be packed with tour groups.

The hotel is not very central. The service was very poor, the rooms were filthy, the carpets were filthy, the lighting in the room was very bad. There was no hot water and the problem was not fixed even though we asked for them to attend to it.

“Run a mile - this is worse than Fawlty Towers! Absolute CRAP!”

Was booked in to this hotel by my Chinese business partners. Unfortunately they were not aware of just how poor the service was here. We arrived and found a dark, gloomy room, with airconditioning that was ineffective, unles you like a freezer!

We asked for a hotel with a gym / fitness centre, and lo and behold, when my partner went down at 7am to have a workout, was advised that the gym didnt open until 10am??? Unbelievable, first gym I've ever heard of that assumes guests want to sleep in!!!

Anyhow, returned in the evening and asked for the lighting to be increased, air con to be fixed, or new room, and a simple request for the keys to the gym so we could have a workout in the morning. Told the opening time is 10am for the gym, and that is the RULE.

So, advised them that I have a rule of checking out immediately I find staff in a hotel who are anything other than customer focussed.

Left there and went to the Marriott Beijing Great Wall and had our socks knocked off with truly genunine 5 star service. Ended up upgraded to Executive Suite.

Be ware, be very ware, these guys have no idea!

“spooky”

Very limited English was spoken. It was dark and the swimming pool was dirty and sauna cold. My partner ordered gin and tonic and it was served cold with little gin and too much tonic. When asked to add more gin and ice, the waitress had to call a couple of people to get her to understand. The location was bad and the view outside was depressing. The room was well furnished and clean. As we left early the following morning, the staff were nice to pack us a takeaway breakfast.

“Spooky Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

3 of us went for a tour in Beijing, and we stayed on 24th dec, 26-28dec. (25 dec was in another hotel).

on the 24th, they gave us room826. it was a corner room, we felt it weird because we have to open one door in order to see another 2 doors one which was our room. the room was big and clean, with one extra bed (which was not that hard). nothing happend during that night, all was fine, we slept very well actually.

the breakfast was okay, compare to other parts of china i've been.

the spooky part comes in on the 26th, where we was given the room 1103, you have to open 2 doors to get to your room, and it was at the extreme corner.
while unpacking one lights at the tiny walk way along the toilet started to turn on and off by itself. thinking it was some problem with that particular light bulb, we did not future think more. however, more lights in the room started to turn on and off by themselves. the bedsides lamp started to flick, one of my friends even heard some voices which was not from the TV!. freaking out, we demand a change of room. they was not able to give us a new room, but i was determind to get out of that room.

being a 5*, i guess they help us in upgrading into a better room to 1236 (i cant remember), this was a much better room, BUT, the lights flicks again. we decided to ignore the flickering and continue to stay in the room for another 2 nights. the room was hot, so we asked the attendant to check the temperature, when he enter our room, the lights auto turned off, and this freaked him out too! i dont even dare to take any shower in the hotel toilet!

the toilets was dark, therefore we decided to swim. however, reaching the swimming pool at only 7pm, the entire pool was so DARK! they said they on the lights already, but it was so unconfortable for us, and after a shower at the pool, we left.

the rooms was always warm. due to the cold winter i guess. there's nothing you can do to adjust the temperature, u just got to stay inside this hot oven the entire night. :(

another thing was, the location was so bad! there was NOTHING around it. even a tiny supermarket was located 10mins away and there's only drinks. 5mins walk away is a petrol station, if you really wish to walk around ur hotel at night, this is not the place to stay in.

travelling often, this is one of the spookiest hotel i've ever stayed in. when we told our guide in the morning about this incident, she told us we are not the first who told her that strange events happen!

the overall service from the hotel was quick and fast and great.
