We visited here twice for a total of 4 nights with "Just You" tour. The hotel is a long walk from the main sights, especially Tianamen Square, but taxis only cost about £2 to get there.
The rooms are fairly clean but show signs of heavy use and need of some maintenance. It is pot luck how well the air-con works and the room can be too hot for many. There is a safe in the wardrobe.
The beds were very firm and had wheat filled pillows, but actually gave a very good night's sleep.
The bathroom had mould in the corners between the bath and tiles but was otherwise quite well equipped.
There is a mini drinking water water dispenser in the room which can also boil water for (complimentary) tea. (Do not drink the tap water).
Breakfast was a wide ranging buffet in either an English or a Chinese style coffee shop. Unfortunately some of the hot dishes were luke-warm and baked beans were cold.
We were served Chinese food at lunch and dinner at large tables with a turntable in the middle gradually filled up with various dishes. Some of it was very spicy and some was garlic laced. The Peking Duck offered as a 'treat' was soft rather than crispy and one of the few dishes remaining unfinished by all. Sweet and Sour pork however disappeared quickly. Rice can appear at any time during the meal, and soup is served near the end.
The hotel front desk was undermanned and the concierge was not particularly good at fetching a taxi. If you stand at the wrong part of the front desk to use their money exchange you will be eventually asked to go to the right place to resume your wait.
Overall, I consider this hotel to be aimed at the type of person like tourists who are unlikely to return. This puts too much pressure on the hotel to maintain high standards of maintenance. This is why I rate it as just average.
