“Very nice hotel in nice location with excellent western style service”

Very nice place with excellent quality rooms and a wonderful restaurant that has a killer buffet. The health club is also fantastic. The location is generally very good, near the space museum, dinosaur museum, and the zoo - but the hotel is off the main road about a block and you do have to walk about 10 minutes to get to the subway station. Still, if you leave time for that, it's a great place to stay.

“Location??”

Stayed here for three nghts at the start of what turned out to be a bit a whirlwind tour of China. Our group was whizzed from the hotel to various attractions (Forbidden City,Great Wall etc) so I never actually discovered where this hotel was in relation to the centre of the city- some distance as I belive we adjacent to the the fifth(!) ringroad.

However the hotel was clean and comfortable-no complaints at all.If you were touring independently I would check if this a good location to be situated for tourists.

There is a Carrefour supermarket right opposite the hotel which, fortunately, you reach by foot-bridge.I personally would not have wanted to cross the road for the absolute mass of traffic.

“Good for Business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

I travel a lot for business (about 60-70% of the year) and have stayed in different hotels of different levels throughout the world. It is a good 4 star hotel, priced for business, with very good service. I would definitely only stay here for business and only if that was mostly based on West side of Beijing. Even though I didn't like the reviews, chose to stay here because I was attending conference in hotel, and wanted to avoid morning traffic. Read on for details

I stayed in Standard room on 22 floor and price was 778 RMB per night including breakfast and 15% tax.

Check-in was fast and smooth, was told that room would only be ready in 30 minutes, and was immediately given a voucher for drink at lobby lounge cafe with out having to ask. After 10 minutes was informed that room was ready.

Room and bathroom were clean and in very good condition. Has definitely been refurbished in last couple of years. Carpet was spotless, and none of the furniture was damaged or showing signs of wear and tear. No smell of smoke. TV has HBO, CNN, CNBC and AsiaNews English channels - not always the case in Chinese hotels. Internet is average speed, and is via Ethernet cable only, which is standard in China, and why I travel with mini WiFi router so that I can get connectivity on BB and mobile as well as laptop. Even though it was not a business room there is a 2 pin European outlet at desktop level which is connected to UPS and another one below. Because outlet is on UPS, this means that laptop will have power when you leave room and power supply is stable. A/C (heating and cooling) worked perfectly. Room is a bit dark. Bed was comfortable, pillows are a bit thin but I like this, no noise pollution.

Most important (for me!) shower a) water got hot very quickly, b) strong pressure, c) head could be set at any angle and stayed there, d) could set the temperature without issue (no boiling or freezing only issues) and e) temperature didn't change.

Food. Breakfast is fine, Asian and Western mix, but nothing special. Try the Nikko in Jakarta if you want an amazing spread. Restaurants and bars are expensive, and mini bar is very expensive, but there is Carrefour 2 minutes walk across the road.

Service is excellent. As well as positive check-in experience, housekeeping was very efficient and fast (picking up laundry, sending extra towels etc.) I ran out of business cards, and went down to business center for assistance. Within 10 minutes a graphics guy had arrived and staff assisted with translating.

Location is not good for 'famous' Beijing tourist sites, but is 10 minutes walk from Beijing planetarium, museum of paleontology and Beijing Zoo. I have seen the major Beijing sites so decided to try the planetarium. 10RMB (~$1.5) for entrance, and 45RMB (~$7) for space theater. There are also 3D and 4D theaters. Almost all the exhibits are marked in English. I spent over 4 hours there and definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Third day had no smog and view of Beijing was lovely. Try to get as high a floor as possible.

“my beijing and sha'anxi sojourn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

my wife and i stayed at this hotel last june of 2011. my first time in this hotel and my first impression is that this hotel is so so and not really that spectacular. free wifi coverage is only in the hotel lobby. this hotel is not near any shopping malls but it is right across some convenience store where you can buy water and other foodstuffs. in my opinion this is just one of those ordinary business hotels with no frills. in my next beijing trips i will try some other hotels.

“not five stars from me.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

This hotel is huge. It has sprawls upwards and outwards to conference rooms, restaurants, gym etc.
The main lobby is very impressive with a vast space for reception area, escalators and functions area. There is a fountain too. This apace also leads to the main breakfast room, the bar and a café area.
Check-in was fast and efficient and a bell-boy took us to our rooms on the 28th floor…. The public areas are nice.. but the rooms are tired. Maybe it’s the brown décor and heavy dark carpets, maybe it’s pale brown leatherette furniture or the sight of an ash-try in a non-smoking room… I don’t know… but something didn’t quite click with me…. It felt hung over from another time where brown was the ‘new swirly pattern’ and Kelly Hoppen was in high school…..
The bed was ok. Comfy enough for someone who’d been up for 32 hours (flight then meetings)…. But it didn’t feel comfortable and homely so I spent most of my free time exploring the near vicinity around the hotel.
The views from the upper floors of the hotel are spectacular. Once the smog clears you can see concrete stretching out in every direction. it’s phenomenal….
Breakfast was fine - nothing amazing there either. Mix of Chinese and western-style breakfast options. The café in the lobby was very good for drinks at least – green tea to refresh after the smog of Beijing. The lobby bar was extortionate – do yourself a favour and explore the local bars around the hotel. Better atmosphere too.
There is a Carre Four opposite the hotel, accessed by a fly-over bridge. The food hall is in the basement and it is worth going to see the range of oddities for sale there.
We also had access to the executive lounge on the top floor. The hotel misses a trick here – it should really utilise this space as it’s bar. The space was comfortable and swish (more swish than the rooms!) and the staff very attentive. The view from here (on the 30th floor) is very impressive too.
The anonymity of the hotel is good for travellers who want to be left to their own devices and the service of all the staff was very impressive.
All in all an OK hotel but nothing to write home about…

Room Tip: get an upper room on the executive floors if you can - they aren't great but, when the smog clea...
