I chose this hotel because it had rooms overlooking the Forbidden City. Our room had that view, but if the city is blanketed with smog (as it often is) there's not much to see anyway. Our room had dated furnishings, but that's not a deal breaker. We were there in late September and Beijing was still rather warm. Our air-conditioning was weak, and no matter how much we adjusted the controls it made no difference. The bathroom tub was too dirty to take a bath, and the shower stall floor was uneven, causing water to build up into a deep puddle and it wouldn't go down the drain. It also was leaking onto the bathroom floor at one point. There are several concierge workers who speak English well, but every time we went to the desk we seemed to get the "Trainee" whose English was so bad I had to ask someone else to help me. The laundry service damaged my trousers- they came back with four holes on one of the legs; the hotel refunded half the cleaning fee and fixed them, but still that shouldn't be happening. I maked four postcards at the hotel (they take your postcards and mail them for you, for a fee)- they never reached their destination. The lobby and public areas of the hotel are beautiful; the restaurant was good. I would recommend this hotel for convenience but ask to see the room before accepting it.
