“Old world charm and hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

An ideal hotel for the weary traveller whether on business or tourism. Excellent size rooms that should really be called suites. If you are lucky you could even get a jacuzzi, which is rather good for relaxing after a hard day's work, shopping or sight-seeing. The beds are very comfortable as is the rest of the furniture, arm chairs and settees abound. There is a good sized desk for working at with fast and reliable internet connection. The bathroom, even without the jacuzzi, is spacious and well appointed (one of the rooms I stayed in even had a second separate toilet!). The sound proofing was very good as the traffic on the Ring Road can get very noisy. Great views, from the right rooms, over the City to the mountains beyond.
The staff were very courteous and helpful. There was always someone on hand to help with any problem or situation that arose during my stay, without being obvious or intrusive.
Although I had access to the Executive Lounge, I preferred to breakfast in the public restaurant as the selection of food was definitely above average. The selection covered Asian as well as Western foods and again the staff were always there to help when required (without being pushy or overbearing). They always had time to chat. The only drawback with the restaurant was the bacon - always cooked to a crisp! For lunch and evening meals (if not dining out) it had to be the main restaurant, with a good selection of food available again mixing Asian and Western styles. The Executive Lounge was ideal for snack meals after eating a lot during the day.
Although the hotel is situated to west of Beijing (effectively the wrong side for shopping and sight-seeing) access to the City Centre was easy with a good taxi service; and Tian Yi market was almost within walking distance, this market is less for the tourist so there is good value for money. Yuanmingyuan Park is within walking distance and is ideal fro a quiet relaxing couple of hours.
The dimensions of the public areas gave a serious air of spaciousness, calmness and quiet.

Huge business hotel in anonymous area of Beijing. Room was huge, nicely furnished / decorated and well equipped. Unfortunately i did not get time to use the leisure facilities, which appeared to be good (pool, gym etc.) Superb breakfast buffet - one of the best I've had.

“Not the best location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

The room we stayed was big, and fancy looking, it even had a jacuzzi! Though I wouldn't say the room was spotless. There were some stains in the carpet, and part of the ceiling fell due to humidity?
The breakfast buffet was very nice, it had Western and Asian style food, and both of them were delicious.
The service was nice and very helpful.
Unfortunately, the location of the hotel is not great, it took at least an hour or so to get to the touristic places.

“A great hotel for fine stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Over the course of past many a years, i have stayed in this place everytime i visited my team in Beijing - primarily because the Beijing Office was in the same premises as this hotel. Great set of rooms - luxury at its best with value rates. Rooms have the aura of royalty - with golden color all over the place. Bathrooms have both the bathtubs as well as separate shower.

They have great airport transportation - the person will meet you right outside the disembarkment point outside the plane. So, you step outside the plane and you are in good hands - though lately i didn't need this but it can be great a facility for someone visiting Beijing/China for the first time.

Breakfast is OK - but then this is coming from someone who always found it hard to align with Chinese style meals. But in general, comapring with other places, i found the food to be lacking. Though you could visit some great restaurants that are right in the same premises though outside the hotel.

Great gym.

And there is a massage parlour right outside and next to it.

“Adequate, But Not Much More”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

I've stayed at the Marriott Beijing Hotel West several times, primarily because the location works better than the Chaoyang District hotels for me when I am doing business in NW Beijing. This is an older property, and it is in reasonably good condition.

The only problem I've experienced at this property was a room that had a strong odor, but I was able to get moved to another room when I made the front desk aware of the problem.

My rooms have generally been spacious and in good working order. The beds tend to be firm, and comfortable. WiFi is available in rooms, as well as in public areas.

The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant is good, not great. It is below average for a Marriott property in Asia. Service (e.g., getting coffee) is mixed.

The Executive Lounge is adequate, but also below average for a Marriott property in Asia. Again, service is mixed. It all depends on who is on duty.

The fitness center actually is a Bally Total Fitness club in a building connected to the hotel. The good news is that there is a LOT of equipment, including machines and free weights. On the down side, the ventilation is poor, so it can be hot, and the staff do not understand or speak English.

Summary, I may stay here again because of the location, but this is not my favorite property in Beijing. I much prefer the JW Marriott. Of course, that is not a totally fair comparison, since the JW bills out at a higher rate per night.
