“Poor location”

This hotel was quite comfortable with clean rooms, good service and great breakfasts.
Unfortunately it is in a very poor location at least a 30 min taxi ride (off peak) to the tourist areas and city centre.
For this reason I would not recommend a stay at this hotel if you are a tourist given that Beijing is so large and busy and travelling needs to be cut to a minimum,

“Out of the way”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2007

We stayed three nights as part of a China tour. The rooms were neatly accomodated with internet and HBO (english) in each. A/C turned off when we left the room and removed the key (electric enabled by key)--really bad when the outside temp is over 32C or 90F like it was when we stayed. Also, as could be expected from China, the water was not potable and the toilet used "recycled" water with little pressure.
Breakfast buffet left something to be desired...limited selection and too few seats for the number of guests.
Hotel was also off the "beaten trail" for tourists requiring a taxi ride ($5 or less) to get anywhere. The taxi price belies the long transit with Beijing traffic; this city has the worst traffic problem I have encountered in any international city including Bangkok and Seoul!
Ventilation in restaurant and elevators (really small) was terrible. I cannot for the life of me understand why guests in western-style hotels do not shower, and it was evident in the buffet line and lifts!
Finally, both my wife and I contracted some kind of stomach bug on the final evening after eating from the dinner buffet in the hotel restaurant (Greenery). While I expected contamination at some point on the tour, I did not expect to contract something from a high-priced meal ($15 per plate) at the hotel.
The Holiday Inn Lido Market is a much better choice for those wishing to shop in Beijing. I really wish we had stayed there!

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2007

This was the best hotel we stayed at in our tour of china. We were a Canadian group. It is a modern hotel and I (as a single) was given a room on the executive floor , which turned out to be quite different from ones given to the couples in the gourp. It was very nice and quite large. It would not be quite so convenient if you were not with a tour group, as this hotel is quite a way from "downtown" Breakfast was very nice. lots of variety. Would certainly recommend this htoel.

  • Liked — Modern and clean
  • Disliked — confusion about which dining room the breakfast was being served in each morning.

“Nice accommodations”

We stayed at the Best Western Beijing Jan 7-10, 2007. The hotel was very nice. The staff was great. The buffet breakfast was very extensive and delicious. The beds were very firm, but comfortable. The only drawback was location. It was quite a distance from the major tourist attractions. Also, be careful about the taxi ride from the airport. Make sure they use a meter. Ours did not and charged us 300 yuan. We asked the bell man what the price should be and he said around 150. Our first rip off in China.

“Great hotel, not so central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2007

A fantastic hotel! Having travelled to a few hotels in China this past trip, this was by far the best. Nice room, great staff (many of whom spoke English), fantastic buffet breakfast, and great business centre.

The only bad side is the hotel is not very centrally located. It is on one of the "ring roads" on the outside of the city, so it is basically just a highway with on/off ramps. You have to take a taxi to get anywhere (shops, restaurants, etc). On the plus side, taxis are not expensive, and it is cheaper than some of the more central hotels (e.g. Tianemen Square/Forbidden City are about 20 minutes taxi away). There are several nice restaurants in the hotel, and a Starbucks in the adjacent building.
