“Tradicional hutong experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Hutongs used to be tradicional neighbourhoods with communal houses, with families sharing interior gardens. Many of them turned into nice familiar hotels, and Citycourt is one of kind (actually its name is Beijing City Courtyard Hotel, ok?). Just about 10 bedroom, no breakfast included, wifi complimentary, very nice prices, about US$ 40 for a twin (in the net). Cable tv, good hot shower, basket of snacks in the room, slippers, clean place. Near the subway station Andigmen. But a SERIOUS advise: bring a address copy IN CHINESE, because the hutong area is full of narrow streets and lanes, many of then with no signal at all, most just written in chinese. Even the locals get lost, and so did us. We have to ask for directions A LOT till finally found. Remember that is a popular place, could look poor, but is very safe, plenty of good places to eat, to shop or just spend a good time. The staff is nice, but the english is close to zero.

Convenient location, giant length bed(!) in the single room. Comfortable ensuite room and pleasant courtyard setting. Situated in the hutongs, very nice area to stay in for a holiday. Hot shower, but limited so don't take too long in the shower!

Unfortunately had a couple of surprises, such as the night porter making us pay for the rooms when we came in one night at 1am and trying to take our room keys off us... They had not received our online booking, but luckily it was a quiet time of year so we had no problem getting rooms. This could be an issue in the high season, though!

“Visiting Family in BeiJing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

My husband and I visited my family for 2 weeks in October and booked all 13 nights in Citycourt Hotel.

The hotel is very safe with 24 hour front desk staff. They lock the front doors after a certain hour, 2am maybe, but there are always staff to answer the door bell. Our room had its own card access door. There was a problem with payment. We emailed the day before and received confirmation that we can use credit card (MC) but when we got there they told us the machine has been down for a week. Luckily my family was with us and had enough cash to cover the bill. Otherwise I'm not sure you can easily find a bank to get cash.

Each room had an en-suite, the beds were made each day and you get fresh towels daily. It is very quiet and our room had its own air conditioning unit and TV. I'm not sure the bathrooms are ever cleaned though. That was probably the most unfortunate part of the experience with the shower/floor drain being clogged the whole time. The hot water lasts about 15 minutes but the bathroom floods in about 5. Since it's just a floor drain, the toilet and vanity/sink is inaccessible for about 30 minutes after a shower. I'm not sure the toilets or walls and floors are cleaned regularly so if you can't rough it a bit in the bathroom scene, maybe consider a western style hotel.

This hotel is very centrally located in the City and in an old area. You see how many people lived before modernization pulled down the hutongs and built high rises instead. Some of these hutongs are hundreds of years old.

We are in good shape and found Gu Lou, Tian An Men Square, Forbidden Palace, the Imperial parks north of the forbidden palace within walking distance, about less than an hour. The walk is recommended because of all the interesting HuTongs, restaurants and businesses you can visit. Cabbing to these attractions is inexpensive and fairly quick, if you stay away from rush hour traffic. There are many restaurants near the hotel as well as little convenience stores near by.

As I have family in BeiJing we never used the hotel's restaurant but did notice other people using it. Wifi was accessible in the common area, along with a hot water machine, bottled water dispenser and large central sitting areas.

Room Tip: Ask for a clean bathroom :)

“Quiet and clean”

The staff were friedly and spoke some English. The decor of the rooms was pleasant in a more traditional Chinese style. Anyone hoping to find a soft bed in China will again be disappointed. We found this hotel to be very good value. It was only slightly let down by it's location with a 10-15 walk to the nearest subway stop. On the plus side being in a hutong, it was very quiet, a relief after some other Beijing hotels.

Despite being some distance from a subway, it is in a great location for exploring the hutong, the drum and bell towers and Hou Hai. Just make sure you know where the hotel is on a map before check in!

“A true hotel gem in a heart of the Beijing hutong area!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2011

I booked 13 nights at Beijing City courtyard hotel through a company called Super Saver along with my flying tickets.

If you are tired of those big star hotels and want to try something real Beijing feeling then this intimate courtyard hotel right in the heart of the ancient Hutong area is for you. The rooms are small and basic but really cosy, as is the whole Hotel atmosphere, warm and cosy. The clean, traditionally furnished rooms are facing a large, well decorated and open or covered courtyard and there is television and wifi in each room. The water is hot, the beds are nicely Chinese way hard but not as hard as I am used to in some Chinese hotels. Since the City courtyard hotel is locating in old hutong area and in old hutong building, the hot water is available around 15 minutes at a time.

The Beijing City courtyard hotel staff is very helpful and can provide detailed information and book train tickets for you and they are always willing to help you, and they speak great English. This hotel is close to all the sites and the nearest subway station Guloudajie is about 15-20 min walk.

If you want to eat in hotel then the hotel kitchen can provide you the breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food is really tasty and the stakes are juicy. Meal prices are ranging from 20 RMB to 108 RMB. There are several different breakfasts available to choose between the prices 28 RMB to 38 RMB, if your hotel booking is not including the breakfast.

The Beijing City Courtyard Hotel is authentically Chinese, and it is a great experience for that. So I highly recommend this hotel in a real, living and working Beijing Hutong area and I will surely book again.
