Bahari Beach's best quality is it's beach. It's perched atop a cliff with a few steps leading down to a relatively quiet and clean beach. Since the local tourist association has managed to keep the beach boys controlled, you can finally enjoy your time on the beach with relatively little hassle.
They have some lovely hammocks where you can pass you day listening to the ocean, reading a book and enjoying your holiday at the beach.
The pool area is average. A rectangular pool surrounded by sunbeds full of our German speaking friends. If you're a German or Swiss German pensioner, this is the place for you as you will make many friends. If you're English speaking, look elsewhere, you really will feel left out even if you're not looking to socialize.
As is the norm with Germans, sunbeds are taken early so wake up early if you want to get one. Tip the pool boy and he'll reserve the sun bed for you throughout your stay.
The rooms are dated, the wood is dark and old and the furnishings are nothing to write home about. They certainly need a renovation. The worst thing about the room was the shower. The bathroom itself was new with a shower cubicle but there was absolutely NO water pressure in the shower. I did not have a decent shower throughout my stay. I did complain and they looked at it but couldn't do anything to improve it. Furthermore, the water in the taps is from a borehole and very saline. Mombasa has sufficient fresh water. The beds however were lovely and the mattress was firm enough for me not to suffer back pains. The TV had a couple of channels but nothing worth watching. The airconditioners were controlled by your room key so if you returned from a day out, the room was extremely hot. When I'm on holiday, I want a cool room at all times.
The bar by the pool was lovely and I enjoyed many beers while looking at the lovely Indian Ocean.
Of special mention are the staff. They were all very very friendly and hospitable. They served us very well and compliments go to the General Manager (German lady) for hiring the right people.
Unfortunately the food was poor. Breakfast buffets were uniteresting and the quality was poor. Kenya has excellent sausages, bacon, ham and other beef and pork products but the ones they served were of lower quality. For lunch we ordered sandwiches, burgers and pizzas as we didn't want the all inclusive buffet. The sandwiches were really poor, not completely toasted and the chips were soggy. The burgers were bland. The pizzas however were very good. I ordered a Tuna pizza and I was pleasantly surprised to be served a delicious crisp pizza with fresh tuna! It wasn't canned! Buffet meals were uninviting, bland and monotonous. They certainly need improvement. I don't blame them to be honest as the majority of the clientele are happy with it, especially as they're on all inclusive.
Every evening they have some form of entertainment (acrobats & local band) which was enjoyable, but good luck getting a table, you'd have to share.
All in all, it was a decent stay but nothing special.
Room Tip: The suites are nice but located too close to the restaurant ... too noisy.
