“Good hotel - not fantastic food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I think Bahari beach is a good hotel. The service is good and the staff very polite and helpful.
The breakfasts are really nice and you have the possibility to eat early if you're on your way for an excursion.
However the lunch and dinners is quite expensive for a typical german quisine.
The italian restaurant is averege and so is the seafood restaurant.
The spa is great even if I dio't have that mouch to compare to.
We chosed Bahari beach for te garden, the pool, the hammocks, to have the beach right outside and because of the diving center in the building and all of those choises turned out just perfect.

“Average Rooms, Good Service, Poor Food ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Bahari Beach's best quality is it's beach. It's perched atop a cliff with a few steps leading down to a relatively quiet and clean beach. Since the local tourist association has managed to keep the beach boys controlled, you can finally enjoy your time on the beach with relatively little hassle.

They have some lovely hammocks where you can pass you day listening to the ocean, reading a book and enjoying your holiday at the beach.

The pool area is average. A rectangular pool surrounded by sunbeds full of our German speaking friends. If you're a German or Swiss German pensioner, this is the place for you as you will make many friends. If you're English speaking, look elsewhere, you really will feel left out even if you're not looking to socialize.

As is the norm with Germans, sunbeds are taken early so wake up early if you want to get one. Tip the pool boy and he'll reserve the sun bed for you throughout your stay.

The rooms are dated, the wood is dark and old and the furnishings are nothing to write home about. They certainly need a renovation. The worst thing about the room was the shower. The bathroom itself was new with a shower cubicle but there was absolutely NO water pressure in the shower. I did not have a decent shower throughout my stay. I did complain and they looked at it but couldn't do anything to improve it. Furthermore, the water in the taps is from a borehole and very saline. Mombasa has sufficient fresh water. The beds however were lovely and the mattress was firm enough for me not to suffer back pains. The TV had a couple of channels but nothing worth watching. The airconditioners were controlled by your room key so if you returned from a day out, the room was extremely hot. When I'm on holiday, I want a cool room at all times.

The bar by the pool was lovely and I enjoyed many beers while looking at the lovely Indian Ocean.

Of special mention are the staff. They were all very very friendly and hospitable. They served us very well and compliments go to the General Manager (German lady) for hiring the right people.

Unfortunately the food was poor. Breakfast buffets were uniteresting and the quality was poor. Kenya has excellent sausages, bacon, ham and other beef and pork products but the ones they served were of lower quality. For lunch we ordered sandwiches, burgers and pizzas as we didn't want the all inclusive buffet. The sandwiches were really poor, not completely toasted and the chips were soggy. The burgers were bland. The pizzas however were very good. I ordered a Tuna pizza and I was pleasantly surprised to be served a delicious crisp pizza with fresh tuna! It wasn't canned! Buffet meals were uninviting, bland and monotonous. They certainly need improvement. I don't blame them to be honest as the majority of the clientele are happy with it, especially as they're on all inclusive.

Every evening they have some form of entertainment (acrobats & local band) which was enjoyable, but good luck getting a table, you'd have to share.

All in all, it was a decent stay but nothing special.

Room Tip: The suites are nice but located too close to the restaurant ... too noisy.

“I won't return here”

Despite good, polite staff, clean rooms, the food in this hotel was just terrible. I stayed Dec 23-28, and it was basically a Rip off. No, I won't come back here anytime, even if somebody held a gun to my head!

“Fantastic holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed at the hotel between 17th and 23rd of December 2011. Hotel is very well maintained. The rooms are nice and comfortable . The food in the main restaurant was ok while the Italian restaurant (which also is all inclusive) was fantastic. The staff working at the hotel is extremely helpful and very nice. Even though we had to check out at 10 am , we got another room (slightly smaller) only for our use until the time of our departure (5p.m.)German lady, who makes sure that her guests get everything that they need.. The main hotel's menager is very a very nice The hotel is a rather quiet place and most of the guests are german pensioners but it is close to the biggest disco in the Eastern Africa called the Tembo Disco and very close to the Haller Park, where you can feed the giraffes by yourself.
We definately recommend that hotel for a nice and relaxing stay in the sun.

Room Tip: Rooms on the left from the reception have wi-fi/wlan internet access (quite slow but still working)

“Average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I have stayed in various Mombasa hotels and Bahari Beach was average. The service was good; great pool (thankfully did not have to bribe the pool boy for a sun bed); awesome entertainment, although I think they should have that every night during the holiday season at least; the breakfast was good as well; and the room was clean and well-organized.

On the down side, the food (which was buffet) was hit or miss depending on the day; since we were locals the staff wasn't as attentive to us as they were to the tourists; and the beach in that area is awful - I prefer Bamburi or even better, the south coast.

Overall our stay was not too bad considering how much we paid for the place.

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are awesome although a little pricey
