Went in September with my daughter. We both had a lovely time. Dont be afraid of the beach boys.We made friends with 2 of them and they took us on a 'beach safari' which was interesting They also took us to their village which was a stark contrast to Bamburai Beach. I found them respectful and kind.
Hotel staff are amazing and cant do enough for you. All inclusive is great , I'd never done it before but was glad I did as food and drinks good quality. We didnt do a safari as we just wanted to chill. Go over the road to the park. We cycled round it for a mornings entertainment. Would go back Liz and Emily

“rubbish hotel”

First, after arriving to the hotel very tired, we were very disappointed by the fact that hotel was not ready for us,we had to wait for two and half hour at the reception for the room.
There are few rooms which overlook to the stuff path with lots of rubbish and cesspool !
Sadly we were given one of this rooms but if you are a First Choice customer which we were ,you are supposed to be guaranteed a sea view room.
The room that we were given was very bad long walk away and up lots of steps finally disgusting dirty bathroom and smelly towels, that was horrible!
Another issue , was the fact that you do not get any bottled water even for the room !
At the bar you get water or coca served in re-used plastic cups!!
And to clean teeth we were given dirty flask which was topped up every day,but they never take away the flask to clean.
Another disappointment was that we had to pay Ł23 for a safty deposit box in our room.
And the last think constand power failures, lots of noise specially over night.

Although the staff at this hotel was wonderful ,the management very poor!!!

The first room 343 was not for use,we were transferred to 424 which was on the forth hotel floor where in the First Choice advertisement there is only three floor hotel.

But that was only the hotel becouse Kenya is amazing and once again I would like to say thank you to Tomslay Tsui the local man who take care of as for whole two weeks spend in Kenia .He show as everything that we wanted to see in this place (Wasini Island and Dolphin Dhow,Haller Park that I will highly recomended to vizit, butterfly park, local pubs and clubs floating restaurant , without Tom we will never go to.
Request to every one who wants to go to the Kenia it is safe to buy your trips from the beach guys are fully registered and safe to trust, the difrence betwin buying from the beach and agency or hotel is only the price massive difference;-}

( Tom's contact is [--] or face book Tomslay Tsui)

“great hotel and staff, poor management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

had a fantastic stay, food /service and surroundings were lovely. Overshadowed on day 1 when my parents had £120 taken from their safe. I was sceptical but checked my moneybelt that I'd padlocked in my suitcase and found that I'd been robbed of £60 too. Ended up carrying all of my money and valuables around with me for the next 2 weeks as the hotel management and local police all but accused me of lying about the theft. My room cleaner was sacked (I hadn't accused anyone) by the deputy manager (who I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw him).
My kids loved it and we all made good friends with lots of the staff team.

Room Tip: sea view is great but disco goes on till 2300 on the sea side of the hotel.

“This Hotel is not All Inclusive!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Have just returned from this hotel having spent two weeks arriving on the 21st January. It should be pointed out that this hotel is not All Inclusive and has guests on a paying basis.

We arrived very tired. I was disappointed to find that I had to pay £23 for a safety deposit box in our room. A deposit, yes, but this should form part of the A.I. package. We were taken to our room and again was disapointed. It was in need of an update as is the whole hotel and the indian brothers who own it run a very tight ship. It almost seems as if the staff are frightened of doing anything wrong.

On our first afternoon we decided to have a cocktail when we came off the beach. We were disappointed to find that despite there being 8 cocktails on the menu only 3 were available for all inclusive! One was with gin which I dislike and one was a vodka/orange juice and we opted for a pina colada. This arrived made with orange juice! We took it back an was told that they did not have any pineapple juice! We also discovered that day having ordered icecream that this did not form part of our A.I. package and was charge nearly 410 shillings (around £3.30) for three scoops. This I found appalling as there were families there and lets face it, all children want each day is pop and icecream! This was not made clear by First Choice when we booked and this needs to be addressed so at least children can have free icecream.

Glasses of water are A.I. but they will not fill up a bottle for you to take to your room at night. These cost £2! Also I went to the bar to get two glasses of water whilst my husband was on the sunbed and was told that I could only take one glass at a time!!! This was two glasses of water - not two bottles of vodka!!

Sunbeds!!! Now that is another fiasco. Not enough sunbeds and I tried to point out to Jack the supervisor that for us Britains, having a sunbed is a huge part of our holiday as we mostly sunbath and enjoy the sun! People were up at 5 in the morning reserving them and not using them at all and those who did not get up were bunging the pool boys to put tools out and these were empty most of the day. We suggested to Jack that he just got to work a little early and just sat and watched what was happening, but it falls on deaf ears! The hotel has capacity for 300 and there is no more than 100 sunbeds and a lot of them are broken!

Food Quality and Restaurants: The food was excellent. We always found something we liked to eat. Yes, there is a lot of indian food, but equally a lot of international. Beautiful fresh salads, soups and fish. The bread is beautifully fresh daily and there is always a b.b.q cooking meat. You had to get in at a reasonable time as they did tend to run out of food which was poor, but Mercie would always get the chef to do you some chicken or lamb fresh if you asked.

The Karibu turned into a waiter style restaurant at night and we ate there three times in the two weeks we were there. It was very good, with a long menu to choose from. Early afternoon tea was also served here from 4 to 6 p.m. with a good selection of cakes and "sandwich of the day" You could also get A.I. snacks, drinks, teas and coffees here all day long.

We never ate at the Fisherman's Cave, mainly because we were peeved about the charges for the icecream and safe and we did not know of anyone staying there who did. The average cost for a meal was around £20

The staff at this hotel are amazing and it is them who go out of their way to make sure you have a great holiday. It is not them who make the rules, it is the management and they have to do exactly what they are told. It is no good getting angry with them.

The entertainment team are good. I have seen a lot worse and none better really. They do some of their own singing and dancing and other acts come to the hotel also. Sylvia was a little treasure and walked with us around the Butterfly Farm and Park across the road from the Bamburi Hotel.

We tipped as we went along and yes we did give quite a lot away to the staff. Casual workers at the hotel, which there are quite a lot as they are laid off when the hotel is quiet get 450 shilling a day. This was entertainment team working from 10a.m. to 11 p.m. There are 135 shilling to a Pound, so they are earning just over £3 per day.

So to summarise the Bamburi Beach. In need of an update! Incredible Staff! Penny Pinching Management! Fantastic Food! Not enough Sunbeds! We made the best of our time at the Bamburi Beach and met some lovely people - Paul, Jacque, Olivia and Brian - you know who you are. We have travelled all around the world doing mostly All Inclusive and this is the worst hotel we have stayed in on that basis. Would we go back there - No definately not!

“fantastic holiday and memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Could not of wished for a better hotel or holiday. Staff all of them, extremely politee friendly and helpful. Room could not of been better. I was aprehensive before I went due to the photos of monkeys and lizzards, Yes we saw monkeys but the are chased away, staff knowing Iw as not keen on lizzard also removed them from coming to close tome. The safari - out of this world seeing the animals close and playing in the water holes. Booked safari prior to leaving England( deposit paid through bank) went with Jules requested George as our driver and the vehicle for ourselves, my daughter and me. Cant put into words the feeling of being on safari. Out of the world. We also went to Shimba Hills through Thomas Cook, told it was a 4 killometre walk to the Water fall, thought that okay only like going to my local shop, but no - it was through forest and down hill had to come up coming back thanks to one of the guides assisting me I eventually made it. Well done to the boys. Lots of poverty but they are very proud people and welcome you to there homes, go if invited and you will be expected to take refreshments with them. I spent some lovely times with the prople. Also went to the deaf and dumb school, bought our sweets and books over theree they to us wee not dear. Also the Mobility workshop. Weather, well I like it hot and was in the pool at 6a.m. Does get bit unberable, airconditioning in room plenty of shaded area around pool. Pool boys work hard and are very accomidating, finding beds and getting your towels. Food I could not fault, always found something to eat, once again the staff were extremely helpful, the bar staff work hard and are friendly. If asked to go on trips etc., whilst around the pool a firm no and they do not badger but will stop and have a chat. All in All a very memorable holiday, only problem now us up \North have to travel teh Gatwick under our own steam to go.

Room Tip: we had ground floor, do not know what it was like upper floor.
