African Safari Club promises when you visit Mara Buffalo camp as part of their safari tours that you'll be seeing animals in the "world famous Mara reserve". Well, don';t be fooled! The world famous Mara National Reserve is 30 km south of Buffalo camp! Instead you'll be driven around the Lemek Koyaki Ranch which is outside the Mara Reserve and they hope you won't notice. Other safari operators also use this area for their tours, but at least they are honest enough to tell you that you're in an area outside the reserve! Your transport for the trips will be completely knackered 20 year old jeeps with collapsed suspension ( which makes for a seriously uncomfy ride and a bad back later on), crudely welded repairs and filthy interiors. If you're in luck the jeep will make it back in one piece, more likely it will break down (3 times over 2 days for us!). The jeep engines are on their last legs so the stench of diesel fumes belching from the exhaust will also accompany you. You _will_ see wild animals here, but you'll also see herds of cattle as this is Masai farming country, not the wide sweeping vistas of the Masai Mara you've seen on Big Cat Diary.
The camp itself is very basic - you're not paying Governers Camp prices and it's OK, that the best I can say. Big praise for the local staff though as they do erverything they can to help (but who are treated appallingly by the company knowing there are so many unemployed in Kenya that those with jobs will work like slaves).
