“Bushbuck for your safari”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

We live in Nairobi and chose to go on a tour so that all the hassle would be taken out of the holiday. This is exactly what happened. In all our dealings with them we found them professional, honest, friendly and they deliver what they say they will. Have recommended them to friends who are coming to Kenya.

Accomodation is basic safari tents but everything was clean and satisfactory. Flush toilets = wonderful. Hot shower is brought to your shower tent. Had the whole site to ourselves as no other groups booked at that time. Its very much out in the wild, heard some kind of animal growling at night (elephant/leopard??) which was an experience. Felt safe with the company being very animal secure though. You are in the heart of it!
Food was lovely, always way too much for our group! We could never finish it. Hearty hot meals are just the thing after early mornings for the drives. The server and camp staff always helpful, nothing is a trouble for them.
Guides and Transport were lovely, knowledgable. Had a 4x4 for just our own family which was nice.
The Mara you see everything! Have travelled to a number of countries and seen a number of things but a safari is really special. I wouldn't even consider myself an animal person but seeing the animals in their habitats was awesome. I don't think I could do a zoo again. October is great time to go. There weren't a lot of tourist vehicles and it was cool and pleasant. Missed the migration though but still plenty of wildebeests around. 3 days safari was plenty for us.

“A Fantastic Safari Experience”

We spent a week in Kenya in August 2011 with the family. Bushbuck Mara Camp was really an authentic safari experience. The camp consists of only six tents well hidden in the bush. No fence makes you feel really close to nature. In the night you can hear the lions roar nearby. The tents are comfortable with beds, water closets, and hot showers. All electricity comes from solar panels.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food and services was excellent. Our guide David and the driver of our Landcruiser were very professional and competent telling us all about the animals, the people, tribes, and cultures of Kenya.

We can really recommend the Bushbuck Mara Camp!

“A gem - amazing experience.”

The Bushbuck camp was amazing, if you want to ensure you have minimal impact and that your money gets to the right people this is the place. The camp is small but comfortable, we were treated like royalty, fantastic food and service from Gladys and Alice. We had Masai Morans for security - no electric fences! and our guide Simon and driver Moses gave us a personalised safari. I can't recommend it highly enough. and would definately love to go back. Forget the posh lodges, if you love nature, the animals and want an experience of a lifetime go to Bushbuck.

“A Surprising Safari Experience because of Bushbuck Company.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

Hi there,

Sometimes it's really hard to choose a Safari Operator and since this is my second Safari trip, I must say that I was really happy with the services provided by Bushbuck Adventures and their Camp at the Maasai Mara. They are a middle range company and we did a 5 days tour with them through the Maasai Mara and LakeNakuru. We had the best experience with them!

They have their own Camp at the Mara, with the set tents, each one with its own toillet and shower. Nothing fancy, but very well organized and clean. Each tent can host up to 4/5 people with lots of comfort. Alice, the cook at the time was really amazing and the meals were a plus after coming back from the gamedrives. I am allergic to some type of foods and she made sure to set the menu in a way to please everyone in the camp. We felt it was a great plus staying in the camp, in the wild, it made a big difference for our trip, especially when we compare our 1 night stay at the Nakuru Lodge, which was very touristy and doesn't give you the sensation of being out in the wild.

The camp itself is very organized, with the sleeping tents of almost 20 square meters, and a main tent organized to be the meal's lounge and also the 'living room'. They have sofas and you can chill out at the afternoons and at nights after dinner. They also organise a fire place every night so people can come and share stories and experiences. There are also some day-toilets around the camp, it helps to save water a precious resource in that area.

Our guides, Kennedy and Simon were really attentive and showed us a great understanding of the animals behaviours and plus, showed good knowledge of the environment giving us explanations with passion and precision. When asked about something they couldn't tell fo sure, they would make sure to look for good answers in the guide books before stating anything.

“Private Setting”

For those who wish to experience the real Africa this is the place for you. Away from the main lodges, the camp is set back among a forest grove with access to a nearby river. Zebra, impala, gazelle, wildebeest, elephant, hippo and baboon, congregate around camp throughout the day and at night one can hear the roar of lions and the whoop of hyenas.

The tented accomodations were clean and very comfortable and featured a comfortable bed, mosquito net, torch, private washstand with both potable water and wash water, soap, towels, flip flops, and a private washroom facility with added shower at the back of each tent (hot water must be requested in advance).

The meals were very good & plentiful and staff will easily accomodate special requests such as preparing traditional food. Afternoon tea or coffee with biscuits was always appreciated before the late day game drive. We readily enjoyed the staff's company around the campfire in the evenings. They have many stories to recount and are extremely knowledgeable of the area and its wildlife. For those who enjoy star gazing, the night sky is free of any "light pollution" making this a worthwhile experience.

I would definitely recommend this camp to those who have a sense of adventure but still require some creature comforts.
