After the fantastic review from the person that visited in January 2006, we decided that that was where we wanted to go. Lamu is indeed a very special place, a small Arab town with narrow streets where fully laden donkeys form the traffic. From the terrace of the hotel you see the swahili women in black buibuis and men in traditional cloth pass by. The staff of the hotel was very nice and always ready to please you. Theresa who gave beautiful relaxing massages on the roof, a real treat after the tyring safari. The only disappointment was the food. It was all Italian. Where were all the lobsters and crabs that we had heard about? Even at their beachbar on Manda Island it was impossible to get lobsters, crabs and other local food, it was Italian food again. So if you are going to stay in Lamu Palace, only have the bed and breakfast and have your meals in the local restaurants where the seafood is out of this world.
