“Beautiful place to stay - away from the hustle & bustle of the city”

We had the pleasure of staying at Gigiri Homestead and found it to be a wonderful place where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful home and yard (patio & gardens) while exploring Nairobi. Martha, our host, and the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The room was private and clean and the bed was very comfortable. A perfect oasis after a long day in the city. We would definitely stay again.

“Quiet and Secure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

I had the pleasure of staying 6 nights at the Homestead. It is in a very quiet area of Gigiri and the grounds and house are very secure. Only a hop skip and a jump from both the UN and diplomatic quater, with the Village Market close by for all your basic needs. I can not fault the staff and would recommend this residence to anyone travelling to Nairobi especially with work in the Gigiri area.

“Absolutely Wonderful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

The location is quiet and secure but easy walking distance to amenities at the Village Market. The staff is consistently helpful. The food is genuinely "home cooked" and great. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. A great place to return to after a day of work in the field. An added bonus: if you are curious about the life of ordinary people in Kenya, you will learn more from the generous staff here than from any tour guide or hotel concierge.

“excellent stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2010

no question: this is a good place to relax.
Friendly staff ( but we never saw the boss, Martha, who only interacted with us for email-bookings.)
Breakfasts are fine, diner on order was average (curry) - just to be a bit criticising... some accessories in bathroom start to age - neighbours dogs are a pain because environment is so quiet we regret their presence.
Area perfectly safe and close proximity of the Village Mall does not make the shopping centre THE place to shop for local items, but it is a nice one to have an outdoor diner if you do not forget: restaurants on the courtyard close at 8PM by Monday evening.

If Martha was willing to invest, it would make her place superb with a Swimmig Pool (we really missed one)

“Great place to stay in Nairobi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2008

Gigiri Homestead is a lovely home in a quiet, residential area near the main United Nations complex in Nairobi and near many NGOs, The rooms are spacious and clean and the house is nicely decorated. But the highlight of the stay are the owners and staff. They are pleasant and accommodating and even offered to let me store some of my things while traveling for work in southern Africa. Gigiri Homestead feels like a home away from home. Chances are you will have a lot in common with the other guests if you are an aid worker or if you like to be with people who keep up with the news but are not at all stuffy. The food is wonderful--Daniel, the chef, is a wonderful person who does his best to please (I am a vegetarian and he and the other staff went out of their way to accommodate me). There are no TVs in the rooms, but there is one in the living room. The Homestead is a fairly short walk away from a great shopping center with all kinds of shops and some great gifts. If you like, you can take a cab. Great for short or long stays, I recommend Gigiri Homestead very highly.
