“not for the faint hearted”

I must say this hotel is not the best in nairobi. it is certainly not budget. we paid near 100 dollars for one night. the staff were very good to us when we complained and i feel did their best to look after us. but it certainly was a down point on our trip. i wont say what we saw on the 4th floor... one good thing to it is the central location in nairobi - ideal for shopping, (we got great deals). lol

“Not a great hotel, but the staff and the food was very good and made up for it somewhat”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

Rooms very basic but clean, locks on patio doors did not work good central location for Nairobi City Center. For the price it could have been a little better. Thought that the food would be poor as in the rooms, however we were wrong the food was very good and breakfast was pretty good as well.

Would recommend as it was ok if you did'nt want to spend a fortune although for 90$ you would have thought it would have been better!!

“Just avoid this dump! Dirty, unsecure, prostitutes”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

I arrived late to Nairobi and needed a hotel for one night before my connecting flight. I told the hotel agency at the airport that my limit was USD 100. I was told that I could get a room at the Meridian. Normally I carefully research hotels on Tripadvisor before making a decision but this wasn't possible, and there you go:

My first ever "Terrible" rating for a hotel. I have reviewed many hotels and I'm not very hard to please (please look at my other reviews). But this hotel is an absolutely dump and I can't strongly enough advicing you to avoid it. I'm not even sure if I would have stayed here if the room was free of charge.

If I can describe this hotel with one word, this would be: Dirty

The hotel itself is long time overdue for a renovation. The hotel reception has some old prostitutes offering their services to you when you arrive.

My room looked ok at first glance but boy was I wrong. My room door had a damaged very old lock that didn't work. I used my suitcase to block the door. In the bathroom was a used wet towel hanging on the door.

The bed looked ok but as soon as I removed the bedspread I noticed that the linen were stained and dirty (both beds).

Balcony doors couldn't be locked (old damaged locks).

Mosquitos are not common in an urban environment but I had several in my room. I killed them all but they kept coming back. I then realized that the window in the bathroom had no mosquito net, nor in the strange "wash" room. Huge gaps everywhere for the the nasty creatures to come into the bedroom. I took a towel and some clothes to block some gaps so the bedroom could be a sanctuary.

Paying USD 100 for this room is bordering criminal, it's maybe a USD 10 room. Or more likely, you pay by the hour, if you know what I mean. It's a joke of a hotel. A dump! The only reason I stayed the night was the fact my connecting flight was 10h away. Simply no time to change hotel

I'm really sorry for having to write my first ever Terrible review but it will happen to anyone sooner or later. I have provided some pictures and looking at them maybe this hotel isn't so bad. But believe me, it is.

Dear LennW,
Dear LennW,

My apologies for your inconvenience. We pride ourselves in continually improving the standards of the hotel. Mosquitoes are an ever present feature in Nairobi due to its geographical location, which is why we provide mosquito nets in all the rooms. We have also instructed our security to ensure that undesirable persons are kept away so that our guests can enjoy themselves. We have refurbished our hotel with new linen and renovated the room to ensure our guests comfort and provide value for their money. We welcome any suggestions on how we can make your experience more enjoyable.

Thanks and Best regards,

“Dirty, expensive and loud”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

I usually stay at the Country Lodge but it was full. After spotting an add for Meridian Hotel in the in-flight magazine, I gave them a call and they had room. The price was the same as the Country Lodge (a clean and central hotel with free internet access) but it did not compare. The room was dirty (really dirty); there seemed to be construction going on constantly; and you had to pay for internet. Upshot: a rubbish hotel.

“staff lovely hotel a disaster”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2010

we paid $180 for a room in April as we were stuck due to the volcano eruption. the staff were lovely and friendly the food was great but the rooms dirty and old , windows did not shut, light switches hanging from walls and doors not secure, and the bathroom was a disgrace. The picture of the pool looks lovely but it is an old picture as it is now very grubby. we were desperate as we had already spent 1 night on the floor of the airport but we left this hotel to go back to our airport floor it was that bad!
