I arrived late to Nairobi and needed a hotel for one night before my connecting flight. I told the hotel agency at the airport that my limit was USD 100. I was told that I could get a room at the Meridian. Normally I carefully research hotels on Tripadvisor before making a decision but this wasn't possible, and there you go:
My first ever "Terrible" rating for a hotel. I have reviewed many hotels and I'm not very hard to please (please look at my other reviews). But this hotel is an absolutely dump and I can't strongly enough advicing you to avoid it. I'm not even sure if I would have stayed here if the room was free of charge.
If I can describe this hotel with one word, this would be: Dirty
The hotel itself is long time overdue for a renovation. The hotel reception has some old prostitutes offering their services to you when you arrive.
My room looked ok at first glance but boy was I wrong. My room door had a damaged very old lock that didn't work. I used my suitcase to block the door. In the bathroom was a used wet towel hanging on the door.
The bed looked ok but as soon as I removed the bedspread I noticed that the linen were stained and dirty (both beds).
Balcony doors couldn't be locked (old damaged locks).
Mosquitos are not common in an urban environment but I had several in my room. I killed them all but they kept coming back. I then realized that the window in the bathroom had no mosquito net, nor in the strange "wash" room. Huge gaps everywhere for the the nasty creatures to come into the bedroom. I took a towel and some clothes to block some gaps so the bedroom could be a sanctuary.
Paying USD 100 for this room is bordering criminal, it's maybe a USD 10 room. Or more likely, you pay by the hour, if you know what I mean. It's a joke of a hotel. A dump! The only reason I stayed the night was the fact my connecting flight was 10h away. Simply no time to change hotel
I'm really sorry for having to write my first ever Terrible review but it will happen to anyone sooner or later. I have provided some pictures and looking at them maybe this hotel isn't so bad. But believe me, it is.

Dear LennW,
Dear LennW,
My apologies for your inconvenience. We pride ourselves in continually improving the standards of the hotel. Mosquitoes are an ever present feature in Nairobi due to its geographical location, which is why we provide mosquito nets in all the rooms. We have also instructed our security to ensure that undesirable persons are kept away so that our guests can enjoy themselves. We have refurbished our hotel with new linen and renovated the room to ensure our guests comfort and provide value for their money. We welcome any suggestions on how we can make your experience more enjoyable.
Thanks and Best regards,
