“A great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My wife, 13-year old granddaughter and I spent five nights at Macushla House. We arrived late the first evening and were greeted by Paul who got us settled in our own two-bedroom cottage. We were there for a couple of days while visiting an orphanage near Gnong, then left for safari and returned for three more nights before departing for home. The breakfasts were great, the beds comfortable (complete with mosquito netting) and the dinners very good. The service/hospitality was superb, the gardens beautiful and the House was close to the giraffe center and the elephant orphanage. I would suggest one or two reading lights. If a traveler has a desire to be in the city center, this is not the place... but, for convenience, comfort, hospitality and good food it can't be beat for the price.

“An oasis in the chaos!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

What a gem! My father and I stayed on 2 separate nights pre and post a trip to Rwanda. We were allocated rooms in the main house which were spacious and comfortable. My only suggestion would be for a mirror and electrical socket to be in easy reach of each other for hair drying purposes. The staff was so helpful and allowed me to leave some of my luggage in the office for my collection on the last night before flying home. The decor is fascinating with nic nacs from various travels dotted about. Maow, the cat, was an added bonus. Tea and biscuits were served when we arrived each afternoon and food was plentiful, we couldn't do it justice. A definite recommendation when staying in Nairobi.

“Wonderful Place”

Macushla House was our first stop in Kenya & was one of three hotels we stayed in Nairobi (Fairview & Heron). This was by far the best hotel/location to base yourself when visiting Nairobi. We wanted to be close to David Sheldrick Orphan’s Project & this was only around 15/20 mins drive. This hotel has only a few members of staff & they are all very helpful & polite. The location is very quiet; the only noise at night is the African wildlife. We were lucky enough to be placed into the separate cottage at the back of the hotel, it was our first wedding anniversary & this made it feel extra special. If we ever go back to Nairobi we wouldn’t stay anywhere but Macushla House. We also made friends with resident cat Mal who we spent both evenings with, very cute. We strongly recommend this relaxing hotel.

“Awesome!”

I stayed at Macushla House at the end of two weeks on safaris in Kenya and Tanzania. I stayed for two nights and because my flight out of Nairobi was not until later in the evening on my last day I was allowed to stay until I left at 6:00 pm. I love Macushla House and chose it specifically because they are close to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and also because of the reviews asserted by other guests through Tripadvisor. The staff and owners are incredible and I enjoyed every moment of my stay here. The food is delicious, and when I return to Kenya Macushla House will definitely be a place I will come back to.

“A gem in the Nairobi suburbs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We spent 3 nights at Macushla House in September and had a wonderfully enjoyable stay.
It is a small, welcoming hotel with wonderful and attentive staff. The hotel is decorated with memorabilia from around the world and it is a great place to relax pre- or post-safari. It is well worth a wander around the grounds and you may well be entertained by the antics of the local troop of vervet monkeys. We also made friends with 'Maow' the hotel cat.
We used the hotel as a base for visits to the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage and the Giraffe centre (a short walk away). The location is in the quiet suburb of Karen, you will need a car or taxis to get around, although the staff helped us to arrange transport.
The rooms are lovely and characterful. I also must give mention to the excellent food (good, hearty breakfasts especially!).
The only complaint was that we wished we could have stayed longer!
I would highly recommend Macushla to anyone and would certainly stay here again.
