“A weekend away from Nairobi... without going far!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We had a lovely weekend staying at one of the stilt/treehouse rooms. It was just what we needed. A breath of fresh air. The staff were not in your face, but available if you needed anything. Two dinners in the evening in a beautiful dining area were like special dinner parties. The food was lovely and the grounds just wonderful. The price is high, but you get what you pay for, and we certainly got value for money. The price is ALL INCLUSIVE except for champagne. The wife had nice wine and dawa with her meals, and we enjoyed relaxation and good company over the weekend.

Paul is a great host and tried to ensure that those who wanted privacy and romance got it, and those that wanted to be sociable and meet people were able to do that. The dogs in the grounds are beautifully behaved and don't bother guests.. unless you want their company. then they enjoy a good fuss.

A possible negative?

For me... having to leave on Sunday after a totally relaxing break.

“Excellent in every respect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

We greatly enjoyed our three nights at Ngong House, resting up from a long safari. Paul the owner is a charming host, our cabin was comfortable and clean, the food is the best we have had in several trips to mainland Africa (only Madagascar was as good or better), the service was excellent, transfers to/from the airport were efficient. We visited the giraffe and elephant sanctuaries and liked both, especially the latter. Without question we will stay again if we have a Nairobi visit.

“A disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

Having heard and read good things about Ngong House, we had quite high expectations. Unfortunately, these were not met. The rooms were not clean. For instance, someone had used one of the cups as an ashtray and it had not been properly cleaned afterwards, something we discovered by the taste when drinking from it. There was a dead moth in the bath salt in the bathroom. At dinner, the glasses were not properly washed.

It was also very cold in our room, so we had to eat dinner wrapped in blankets from the bed. They had a fireplace in the common area, but since they (without informing us beforehand) hosted a large party for safari tour operators, this did not feel like a very attractive alternative.

In spite of two reminders, our dinner was half an hour late. The beds were not very comfortable.

In general, we felt that the place had seen its best days some years ago. We would not recommend it.

Worth every penny!

As other reviewers have noted: magical and special place. We loved our room, the treehouse featured on their website. We have never stayed at such a unique place. We felt like little kids playing house.

Kip welcomed us with yummy pineapple juice and from there the special touches just kept coming. They are unobtrusively attentive and the food is some of the best we had in all of Africa.

Def make the time to join Paul, the owner, at his evening campfire. He is truly a unique character and incredibly interesting. Once we told Paul it was our tenth year anniversary, we were surprised with a special dinner at one of his special lodges on the property. It blew us away. He stored our bags, hosted us for lunch on our return trip and on and on. We have never had a host go so above and beyond for us.

Also make time to visit his wife's boutique on property, the jewelry sells for a fraction of the prices at Bergdorfs in NY.

LOVE LOVE this place.
