“"Average....but bordering on poor"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The basics of the hotel are in place: the rooms are clean and reasonably comfortable, the staff are helpful (when asked), and nearby there are a few good dining options.

However, given the competition next door (the Sankara Hotel http://www.sankara.com/) I wonder why the hotel does not make more of an effort, especially on the food front. Unless you are desperate, I strongly suggest you eat any of the nearby restaurants (using the TripAdvisor reviews to guide you) rather than eat at the hotel. The breakfast food, apart from the fresh fruit, was greasy and unappetizing. The bar food, which was mainly hamburgers, was tasteless and greasy (avoid the chips at all costs).

On a positive note, the fitness centre located on the hotel grounds is excellent, which is the main reason I have rated the hotel ‘average’ and not ‘poor’

Room Tip: Select a room away from the 'Pizza Garden' across the road from the front entrance. On Frida...

“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The hotel is nice, comparing to other hotels in Kenya. I was in few days business trip. I enjoyed the location of the hotel, close to the center and the breakfast especially was very rich with many varieties and tropical fruits.
Staff were not that friendly, keep you waiting at the reception if you ask for any service, but generally, better than any other hotel in the city.

Room Tip: try to get a room overlooking the swimming pool and not on the first floor.

“Good one night stop-over”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

I have stayed several times at the Jacaranda after an over-night flight from the UK, and have found it quite acceptable for a brief stay en route for safari up country. Rooms clean, food traditional buffet which I prefer and service good. Never had time to sample pool. Staff have always been very helpful. I always take advantage of the trip to the Giraffe Sanctuary and to Karen Blixen's house in Karen District, now a museum donated by the Danish Government to the people of Kenya. The film ' Out of Africa' comes alive when I step into the house!!! The views across to the Ngong Hills from the gardens are magic!

Room Tip: I have always had a room on the first floor.

“Good Hotel for First Night in Kenya”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed here for our first night in Kenya before going off on safari and would happily stay here again.

We had a nice evening meal sat on the terrace of the bar by the pool. The pool looked nice but we didn't have time to use it. Breakfast was very plentiful and well presented.

Our room was a standard room which was fine but we did have a problem with the toilet. We reported this to the reception who immediately sent someone to look at it. The guy quickly decided that he couldn't fix it so we were again immediately moved to another room just down the corridor. All very efficient

All in all a pleasant stay

“Great deal;”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Spent a night at the hotel with my wife and was impressed.

This iscertainly one of the cheaper hotels in Nairobi in its category and we were not disappointed. Its quite scenic for a hotel in the busy Westlands area and we enjoyed our short stay.

Didn't get to taste the dinner coz we were out partying but the breakfast was great, rooms were neat and clean..

Room Tip: Side facing away from Sarit Centre, the Mega shopping Centre.
