“Good location...and that's it !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I have stayed at 680 for now over ten years (between 15 and 20 visits), everytime as a stop for one night, en route to other places.

The rooms are OK, but security can still be improved a lot. The bar is a place where you will find businessmen, locals and prostitutes. I certainly would not recommend for a longer stay.

Rates are OK, rooms clean. Ask for a room at the back side of hotel, not in front of Simmer's, at least if you want to sleep...

Room Tip: Avoid front side

“Good location. Not so great facilities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

680 is located right in the center of Nairobi business district (CBD) which is great positive for business travelers and it sort of fills up for all other negatives. The rooms are simple and neat. The TV set is archaic and you need to get the remote to operate the TV from the reception (!!). There are very few channels so dont bother to go out and get the remote. If you are paying by credit card they charge you an additional 5% on the agreed rate. If you paying using local currency, the conversion to $ rates is a rip off. Please carry US$ or Euro currencies. The internet is charged for. I have heard that in some rooms the wi-fi signal is quite weak. The break fast is good and they serve healthy food. The alacarte menu has limited options.
The key negatives are - there are a number of women going arround and you need to be careful. There is a nighclub 'Simmers' just opposite the hotel which blares music till late into the night. In some rooms it can become quite a disturbance.

“Not bad at all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

I stayed at Sentrim 680 hotel in September 2011 for five days. Having heard about the noisy restaurant close to the hotel, I was careful enough to request beforehand (by email) that I wanted a 'quiet' room. The room I got was on the far side of the noisy place, and I could still hear the music until late night on most nights...but it wasn't too bad.

The hotel itself was kind of minimalist but clean. There is a security guard on every floor--this seems to be the Kenyan standard for all hotels. The beds were made for the first two nights, but not thereafter. The bathroom was clean and functional.

Please do not change currency at the hotel--their offer was KES 80 to the USD, whereas I finally managed to get KES 99 to the US (at UN Offices at Nairobi). The internet is also somewhat expensive at about KES 900 per 24-hour interval, but it worked fine.

Overall, the 680 was reasonable value for money at about USD 80 per night. The location is right off the downtown arterial road, and is therefore excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a 'quiet' room

“Pleasant stay, good local”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

Sentrim 680 Nairobi - The security in this hotel is excellent, although somewhat unnerving as there are guards on each floor. We liked the feeling this provided especially downtown Nairobi which, we are told, can be dangerous. We were disappointed in the lack of air-conditioning but we had hot water throughout the day and a private safe in our room. The staff were helpful and the lady at the concierge desk was very friendly and personable (and gave us excellent suggestions for dining), as were the porters who managed our luggage in between travel quickly and effectively. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated, and likely new refurbished. The bathroom was clean as well. We faced the front of the building so we had no problems with noise. Even the main street in front quieted down by 11 pm. We were a bit put off by the casinos in the buildings and the cigarette smoke but it did not permeate into our rooms. Select one on the 5th floor as it's non-smoking and cleaner apparently. Also, the front of the building is away from the casinos in the building and are quieter than the rest. The breakfast was good, fresh with lots of choices.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 5th floor as it's non-smoking, cleaner and apparently refurbished.
