A haven of tranquillity marred only by the access road (mud track). Lovely rooftop restaurant with stunning views of the Nile and Luxor Temple on the other side. Freshly cooked traditional food, with occasional buffet lunches for passing groups in which we were invited to share (4 courses for LE45 (about a fiver!) Birgit and Salah (the German/Egyptian owners)could not have been more helpful and solicitous and the rest of the staff were the most polite and charming we'd met anywhere. The room was large and very clean with a huge well-appointed bathroom. Clean and comfortable beds with a little sitting area/balcony with comfy cane chairs for each room plus the garden with aromatic plants and sunbeds. 5 mins walk to the Nile.

We stayed at the El Nakhil as it was recommended to us. Before we arrived I must have sent dozens of emails to Birgit, the owner, asking hundreds of questions but she answered every one of them with the utmost patience! Birgit and her husband Salah run the hotel and between them they can organise anything for you. They organised a very good driver (Mohammed) and minibus to transport 11 of us around the sights. The hotel itself is lovely, we had rooms 16 & 17 which are interconnected and open onto the beautiful gardens. All the staff are very friendly and helpful but I must mention smiley Bill (actually Mohammed Ali (yes!) but renamed by my husband) and George (Youssef) who work in the restaurant, really lovely guys. Anything you want, Salah can arrange for you - we also had a felucca ride - just ask. The rooms are clean and adequately furnished, there is no TV but we didn't miss it as we spent the evenings on the terrace and there was plenty of hot water and good air conditioning. You can see Luxor temple straight across the Nile from the terrace. There was a courtyard where the kids played and no-one minded them running around. It was one of my children's birthdays while we stayed at the El Nakhil and Salah arranged a cake and small gift for him which was a complete surprise and very much appreciated. We would definitely stay again if we were in Luxor.

was worried about taking my two teenaged daughters to Luxor for a week (my minimum stay in this place). How will they cope with a quiet (so I thought) west bank stay on their first trip to Egypt? Well, we did escape most of the hubbub of this active tourist resort. We even managed to get a few quiet visits on – relatively- unbeaten tracks. But, most of all, returning to the relaxed, friendly and well-maintained Al-Nakheel at the edge of the village was a good treat. Reception, restaurant and management of the hotel have made a good impression on my daughters and they kept very good dear memories of it.

This Hotel has so much potential and with a few little added touches It would have scored higher. The Good: The Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. The actual grounds are beautiful and the rooms are clean. They have a sweet little cat that I being a cat lover enjoyed.
The Not so good: There were no frills, no chairs in the rooms, they had chairs outside which would be great at certain times of the year but after a hot day exploring the desert, we wanted to be in the air conditioning and away from the annoying bugs. The restaurant food took a really long time to prepare and was just ok. The neighborhood is really dumpy, and the friendly little cat brought it's not so friendly mama for dinner and we literally had to fight them off or feed them to keep them off of our table. Even for a true cat lover this was too much. There are no TV's in the room which normally doesn't bother us because we don't go on vacation to watch TV however to some people that is important. The little "TV Room" provided needs an update. The Beat up furnature in there was old and dirty and not appealing.
If you are looking for a clean, easy on the budget hotel, this works but we wanted a little more. We stayed one of the 2 scheduled nights and found a different hotel on the 2nd night.
