“Friendly Oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Although my travels in Egypt were at the least uncomfortable and at the most just plain awful, this hotel was a breath of fresh air from the hassle of local traders and taxi drivers, and the hassle of having all my money stolen from another hotel in Egypt.
The staff are friendly, the hotel is very clean, the food excellent for the price.
Some people may have high expectations, but please remember the cost of the room and food, and take this into consideration. I stayed in 4 star accommodation at the Red Sea and was happy to return to this hotel and its staff. Also stayed on a Nile cruise 5 star ship and again I was happy to return to this hotel. It is an excellent hotel to base trips from. At the moment the balloon trips are at the lowest E£250 (Egyptian Pounds - less than £30), check out Manooratoursegypt.com they can also arrange many other tours.
The hotel staff will make a 'breakfast box' if you have to go out early. Great for the Dendara Cruise. Arkrights shop 5 mins away have great sandwiches etc for lunches or the plane back home. The hotel shop was quite competitive, I got T-shirts ordered with my nieces and nephews names in hieroglyphics and good quality cups. Better prices than the Souk. You can order the T-shirts with a deposit payable.
I recommend half board. The breakfast has a large selection, although I would prefer some fruit also. Please tip the staff as wages in Egypt are very low, and many have 2 jobs just to survive.
There is only one complaint which is not the hotels fault. When leaving the hotel there is a lot of hassle from the taxi drivers.
There are guests there that have stayed for a long time and are happy to help with advice.
Bring ear plugs for the Karaoke that is on 2 nights a week, unless its your thing! Also for the early morning calls to prayer.
Enjoy.

“Good value and good quality hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed half board for week 18/01 to 25/01/12.

This hotel is not 5 star, but is an efficient, friendly, competently run, 3 star hotel with good wholesome meals and services. About half the residents seem to be Egyptians, which was fine.
This hotel has a 24 hour reception, most of whom speak some English. Free safe deposit boxes are available, as is free wifi that can be accessed in various areas.

The rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter than those at the front near the road.
We had a room on the second floor, which had three single beds, a wardrobe, bedside cabinet, but no drawers. Hangers were supplied as soon as we asked for them. We used our cases for clothes storage. There was a small TV, with a few English speaking channels, but we never watched it. The fridge was useful for water.
The en-suite was small, but there was always plenty of hot water for the shower. The room was cleaned daily, and sheets and towels were changed daily.

The pool was too cold to swim in in January, but other hotels nearby will let non-residents use theirs for a small charge. The sun roof with free sun beds was pleasant and you can phone for drinks or tea.

Meals - Breakfast is taken in the restaurant overlooking the pool. There is a cold selection in the fridge, and a hot selection in the large serving vessels on the counter. The chef cooks omelettes on request, and they are very good. You can have as much as you like of the food and tea, coffee or fruit juice. Don't expect a full English breakfast, as most of the food is Egyptian. We tried everything and it was different than we were used to, and we felt it was good. One morning we had to leave early for an excursion, so the previous evening we asked at reception for a boxed breakfast to take away the next day. It was ready for us at 0600, and it was Egyptian but again was excellent.

Dinner - This is served in the main restaurant. For half board guests there is a separate menu, which is good in quality and somewhat limited in choice, but apparently you can order from the main menu if you require and pay the extra.

The service including room service is prompt and efficient.
The bar is quiet and comfortable.
There are several large flat screen TVs that seem to show a lot of football.

There are mosques all over Luxor, including near this hotel, so you will hear the early morning call to prayer, but it is quite melodic and we got used to it.
Twice a week there is karaoke on the ground floor and this seems popular with Egyptians, who make up about half the hotel residents.

There are plenty of ATMs near the Gaddis, one next door at Credit Agricole is the nearest.
If you need a chemist, there is one near the entrance of the Steigenburger Hotel, and the pharmacist speaks some English.

It is hassle free and almost idyllic in the hotel, but when you go out you become a business opportunity in what is a relatively poor country, so don't expect a peaceful time outside.

There is retired English resident Paula living at the hotel and we found her to be a pleasant helpful woman, who was such an asset and a wonderful source of advice and information. It was our first time in Egypt, and Paula's help and assistance kept us informed, helped us cope well and smoothed out any problems. She is an asset to the hotel, who helped make our holiday so much more successful than it would otherwise have been. She is always at breakfast and is very approachable.

We would recommend this hotel and we hope to return there.

I'm recently in egypt and just spent 2 nights in luxor at the gaddis hotel. The location is great and the staff are very helpful. The rooms are far above average. In fact, so far on my trip they are the best i've experienced. I'm travelling on a buget so as far as value is concerned, it is actually quite amazing.

“avoid the gaddis!”

recently back from Gaddis hotel and it was an awful experience! housekeeping actually changed the sign which i had put on the door to have the room cleaned to Do Not Disturb! when i complained about this the staff said it was the wind which had " accidently" blown the sign off the door handle! this was obviously because housekeeping could not be bothered to clean the rooms. The hotel do not care about their guests. they have your money so complaining gets you nowhere. The food was very poor quality and expensive. i definitely would not recommend this hotel. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Room Tip: just dont bother going to the gaddis!
