“A hassle free experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

The hotel was extrememly comfortable for myself, wife and friends. However non of us liked the hassle we received when we tried to exit the hotel, far too many horse and carriage and taxi's touting for business, which wouldn't be too bad if they learnt to take no for an answer. Hopefully if enough people put this on there review the hotel may be able to move these people away so that they do not pounce on you as soon as you put a step outside the hotel!!!
We were all releaved when we came across Debbie from Egyptian Dreams who orgainised our trips for us and all hassle free. If anyone would like her details I would be pleased to pass them on if you contact me. This made our experience in Luxor bearable, so when we return later in the year, we will use this hotel again along with using Debbie to do our tour requirements.

Room Tip: Nile view side as road can be very noisy.

“Would recommend - great value for money!”

Good location, nice pool, excellent service, lovely room with great view (full Nile), big room, comfy beds, spotless, good breakfast. ate in the hotel a few times & food was good value for money, no complaints at all .Went last July - quiet but lovely after a Nile criuse & a trip to Cairo on the train. A most memorable holiday ! Visited the Winter Palace hotel, just fab. A must is afternoon tea , dinner was good too & not too expensive considering the quality of the food & service.
PS used the taxis outside the hotel, took us shopping to the tourist indoor market which was cheap for souveners etc, very relaiable & cheap. Local shop, good for soft drinks, water etc in side street to the left of the hotel. Isabelle & Sandy

Room Tip: make sure room doesnt overlook a docked Nile criuse boat! Our did bur asked to be moved which they...

“Best hotel in Luxor”

I have stayed in the nile palace 6 times and am about to again twice this year. We only ever have B&B as there are so many great restaraunts outside to try. The service given by all the staff is excellent and they cannot do enough to please you. Even though I book through a tour agent I e mail Mr wael Ahmed before our stay and he takes care of our requirements including giving us our favourite room. The room is always clean and well eqipped with usually a complimentary basket of fresh fruit. The pool boys are really friendly and helpful and you dont have to lift a finger even to lay out your own towels. We have visited and looked around other hotels in the area and always stick to this one as we dont want to be disappointed. The breakfast choice is vast and should be good enough for anyones taste. The courtyard rooms are great for people watching and for the entertainment, which is usually over by 11pm. Anything we have ever requested in all of our stays has been produced or delivered within 10 minutes with no problem. The pool is usually peaceful as this is not a hotel which seems to attract people with children. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to relax and be pampered.

Room Tip: A nile view room is great by day but after 6pm there is nothing to see. Choose a patio room if you w...

“Luxery in Luxor”

My girlfriend and I spent a week at the Steigenberger in January 2012. We were greeted by Alison from guest relations and were shown three types of room so we could decide whether we wanted to upgrade. There was simply nothing to think about as for a little over £10 per night we had a room with a small balcony which overlooked the Nile and the Valley of the Kings - simply breathtaking from dawn when the air ballons were hovering to the spectacular illuminations of the Valley of the Kings at night. Our room was very comfortable, the choice of TV programmes was good, cannot comment on the efficiency of the air conditioning as in January you definitely don't need it. We thought the hotel manager never slept as he was in evidence in different parts of the hotel whenever we were using the hotel facilities, this showed in the quality of the staff and the general ambience of the hotel. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. There was a variety of locations to sit and enjoy a snack or just a glass of wine - all of which offered views of the Nile. Boat taxis and felucas could be taken from the hotel at set rates - a feluca trip for an hour is not to be missed! We ate at the Italien (overlooking the internal courtyard) and Thai restaurants within the hotel and found the service and food was of a high standard. The hotel was spotless and had charm you definitely new from the decor that you were in Egypt. We made full use of the resident trip organiser - Mohamed - at the Thomas Cook desk. We took a variety of trips - air balloon combined with the Valley of the Nobles, people carrier to Aswan via Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae and the Aswan Dam, overnight in Aswan, flight to Abu Simbel, returning by train to Luxor, Valley of the Kings and Karnak. Throughout our excusions we were accompanied by the same very knowledgable guide. You may be able to barter for a cheaper price elsewhere but as two ladies travelling alone we chose Thomas Cook and were delighted with every aspect of their service. Altogether we had a wonderful holiday which was enhanced by our first class accommodation. If you visit Luxor in January the sun shines all day long but pack a thermal or two, luckily I did! We went everywhere we wanted around the Luxor streets and markets and never felt uncomfortable or intimidated, with tourist numbers low at the moment it is a great time to visit as you have the artefacts almost to yourelves. Personally I would not visit Cairo because of the political unrest but Luxor was fine.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a Nile view either when booking or on arrival. The hotel was very quiet when we...

“Major personal security issue”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The front desk clerk actually gave out our room number to a local tout who claimed to have my friend's cell phone (which he did not). The man had been harassing us to book a boat or caleche with him, but it seemed innocent enough until he showed up at a restaurant after secretly following us then demanded money for wasting his time (we had never booked anything, only taken his number and said we'd call if we decided we needed his help). He then told us our room number and said he'd come find us later - we were shocked. For all the hotel's armed guards and metal detectors, security there is clearly just a facade. Even after we spoke to management about the incident, no one seemed to feel they'd done anything wrong.

Our room was comfortable enough and the restaurants were expensive, but passable. The live dance show was one of the most painful things I've ever watched and the obscene volume made it impossible to get to bed early the night before our sunrise balloon flight.

The breakfast was fantastic.

Room Tip: Do not take a room overlooking the courtyard if you plan to sleep early!!
