We stayed at the Sonesta St George, early in December 2011. Having previously stayed at The Old Winter Palace the year before. Apart from the fact that what we paid at the Old Winter Palace would have bought The Sonesta St George, or at least a small part of it. We thought the Hotel was as good as it gets. Having booked a room for 3 including our 20 year old son home from uni, booked in to find out they had given us a double room and on questioning this they offered us a put up bed, my very diplomatic husband much to my dismay went down to speak very diplomatically (I dont think so) to the Manager, I waited patiently with my head under the pillow, he was back in less than ten mins, and said 'Give them an hour or two and they would sort something out. In less than 20 mins they had moved us to a Nile View Suite, things just got better and better. I would highly recommend this hotel, and look forward to returning. Excellent hotel and wonderful people.

Just returned from another family holiday to the Sonesta In Luxor, without doubt the hotel maintains an up market approach to things without the tiresome snobbery and attention to rules of other leading 5 star rated hotels in the city.
It is and will hopefully remain a family and couples orientated hotel catering for all tastes, the hotel is very well situated and the staff very honest and friendly, head of house keeping Usama is a complete Gentlemen in every way and he personally goes out of his way to ensure the stay is both memorable and fulfilling in every way.
Meal times are good relaxed and of a high standard, staff are attentive without being ovrly in your face, poolside is clean and well maintained including the much used and welcoming Jaccuzzi's which are in use whatever the monthly temperature.

To be recommended without question.

We stayed in this hotel as a couple back in August 2011 and we had the most wonderful time. The Hotel itself was lovely, the room was spotless and we had a side Nile view to the left. We had the sun all day in our room and although it does get hot it's what we went for.

The rooms were cleaned daily and always very well too. Staff were helpful and couldn't do enough for you. We stayed B & B only which was a good idea as there are plenty of restaurants around Luxor to try a different one every night.

Breakfast was decdent enough with some wonderful omelettes which we lived on all week but somehow never got bored of them. Drink and pool bar food reasonably priced, we used to go to Arkwrights for a sandwich as this shop is cheap as chips for food and drink and the English owner is lovely.

Went on a few trips but did not book through Thomas Cook as we found them too expensive. Found a wonderful little tour agent in the street over the road, i can't remember what it was called but the lady who booked the trips was called Maggie and she was English and she is just brilliant. Give them a try, they do some really good trips for a fraction of the tour operators price.

We are going back again this year to the Sonesta and then going to the Red Sea for a further week.

You will not be disappointed with this hotel.

P.S there is a nice Calesh driver who hangs around outside he is called Adam 88, he is a lovely man who most definitely will not rip you off.

We have just returned from our 2nd visit to the Sonesta St George in Luxor. It is well situated on the Nile, and central enough to be within walking distance of most areas you might want to go in the city. The service is excellent and the ;hotel is very clean. We found the rooms on the south side of the hotel, the even numbers, were better, but mostly because we got sun on our balcony and the weather is cooler in January so this was welcome. The closer you are to the street, the noisier it is, so try to get one of the lower numbers which are closer to the front of the hotel. The Nile view rooms are of a similar size to the others, and more expensive, and don't get so much sun as they face due west, apart from the evenings. The breakfasts are very good. We were half board, and the restaurant is not too exciting in the evening. However, there are other restaurants within the hotel, an Italian, a Japanese and an Egyptian restaurant which are all very good, and you get an allowance towards your meals in these if you are half board, so it is worth going to these.
The beds are changed daily and towels at least twice a day and all staff cannot do enough for you.
There is a bit of hassle in the streets, but the people are desparate for your business and you learn how to deal with it.
The last time we went it was October and very hot and we found January weather much more comfortable for sightseeing, and still hot enough to sunbathe. The outdoor pool is heated so not too difficult to enter, and the sundeck includes 2 jaccuzzis, which are very warm. There is also a beautiful pontoon where you can sit and look at the amazing views over the river and also towards the West bank.
