“A beautiful view and very, very nice suite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We went to Egypt in December. We are platinum with Starwood so we chose to stay at the Sheraton Luxor Resort. We were given a beautiful suite with double door entry, 1.5 baths and nice lounge area and breakfast area. The bedroom was well sized and the bathroom was really nicely done with marble inlay etc. I have to say that the toilet was the best I have ever seen (or been on!) LOL. It had all these options for heated seat, duvet settings, blow dryer, massage etc. The view was amazing...We were on the Nile River and at sunrise you could watch the balloons over the West Bank. There is a club lounge with a few western style appetizers which was nice and they also had alcohol as well (not easy to find in Egypt)....The only drawback was that the hotel in a bit off the beaten path and not in the center of town, but we had our own driver so we could go wherever we wanted whenever we wanted. If you want to walk around Luxor Temple at night time then back to your hotel, then this isn't the hotel for you. Although it appeared to me that it was fairly industrial in the area by Luxor Temple so I'm not sure you'd find a 5 star hotel there anyways...something would have to give...either the hotel location or the hotel quality. By the way, Luxor is not a huge city. We were at the Temple in 5 min by car... I enjoyed this hotel. It was my favorite room in all of Egypt...very luxurious and comfy.... :)

“Very good hotel, great value, but no gym”

Great room with a beautiful view of the Nile. Club lounge is modest, but very nice. Only real complaint is that they don't have a gym. Nevertheless, the hotel is a great value.

“Excellent hotel”

As other people have said, this resort hotel is located on the outskirts of Luxor but that was not a problem for us as we were able to make use of the free shuttle bus. The rooms are well proportioned and decorated to a good standard. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, but was able to sleep.

The food was a bit run of the mill, and if I never see beef bacon again it will be too soon! But the waiting staff were excellent - most of them seemed to be comedians...

The views over the river were stunning. I'd certainly recommend a river view room.

Would I go again? Well, no. The Valley of the Kings was a bit of a let down (it's so commercial and you are hurried through the tombs) and everyone is after baksheesh and it gets a bit tiring after a while.

Room Tip: Book a river view room. You won't regret it!

“Lovely hotel with stunning views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We spent 7 days at the Sheraton this January and really enjoyed our stay apart from being disappointed with the food. The room was very comfortable and the view from the balcony was stunning, looking across the Nile to the Valley of the Kings with beautiful sunsets. The pool was also looking out across the Nile, but was not heated, maybe because the hotel was only 25% full due to the political situation, but their other pool was heated, which was set back to the side of the hotel. The location was great - away from the noisy centre of Luxor, but a short shuttle bus/taxi ride in. The main dining room and terrace were really attractive but let down by a very disappointing buffet and lack of choice on the a la carte menu. The food in the Italian restaurant was good, but it was very cold despite the electric heaters as it was basically in a tented area. The indian restaurant was our best choice but was always empty. We have stayed in some fabulous Sheratons in different parts of the world but felt the food let this one down.

“Excellent resort - ok location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Overall I was very pleased with our stay at the Sheraton in Luxor. The resort was very clean and comfortable with several restuarant options and wonderful pool area. The view of the Nile at sunset was also a wonderful bonus. The only thing that was not top notch was the location. This resort is perfect if you want to escape and relax and be escorted around to your destinations, but it was rather far away from the center of town for us. We walked to a popular restaurant, Sofra, and it took us about 30-40 minutes.

Room Tip: Facing the NIle was lovely.
