Having stayed at the Sofitel Karnak, Luxor, ever since it opened...both as a couple and also as a family at least once (sometimes twice a year) we still keep returning because it's always a peacefully relaxing and throughly enjoyable place for a holiday. The warm and friendly welcome each time we return, the clean and well maintained rooms, the beautiful views and landscaped gardens, quality and variety of foods in the restaurant, the attention, efficiency and kindness from all the staff (whether it's a receptionist, gardener, maintenance man, room maid, room service, management, waiter or towel for the sunbed, security guard, etc.) is why we love the place! Nothing is too much trouble, and everyone tries their best to make sure our visit is memorable and enjoyable. Waking up to the beautiful landscaped gardens,overlooking the West Bank, listening to and seeing the beautiful bird life all adds to a great holiday.
After breakfast on the terrace overlooking the spotlessly clean pool, a trip on the shuttle boat to the Winter Palace is a must. Sunbathing, with attentive waiters who are never far away in case you want a drink or a snack, is a pleasure. The impressive restaurant has a vast variety of tempting foods, with more waiters eager to make sure you are throughly spoilt and enjoy yourselves. On our last visit we were disappointed that the O'Nile a la carte restaurant was not open for dinner. Saying that if you are looking for a relaxing time, in beautiful surroundings, with staff who are keen to make sure you have a wonderful holiday, you must book a holiday at the Sofitel Karnak....you will not be disappointed!

I stayed at Sofitel Karnak Luxor with my brother and sister for seven days. I am saddened to see the negative reviews on this hotel and staff. I personally found it to be one of the best holidays I have experienced. The staff were professional and went out of their way to be helpful and nothing was too much for them, they were very accommodating. The rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard. The food was very tasty with varied themes each evening. The grounds were beautiful, where else would anyone want to be but in such surroundings on the Nile, especially at sunset, it was magical. It was within easy access to all the ancient history of this area, there is so much to see seven days was not enough time to take in the local culture and historical sights. I could go on and on but must end with the staff of restaurant, bar and poolside who made us so welcome, I feel that when I do return it will be to friends not staff. Pat, Torquay, Devon, England.

We have recently returned from our third visit to this hotel. The following were excellent:
- value for money
- peace and quiet
-free shuttle boat and bus into Luxor
- friendly and efficient staff
- quality and quantity of food and level of hygiene
- cleanliness of room and hotel in general
- very warm, large heated outdoor swimming pool
- gardens
- birdlife
- visible and accesible management

The following are minor quibbles:
- the insistence on photocopying passports on check-in. This is insensitive given the increasing concern about identity theft and is surely unnecessary. The duty manager at check -in assured us we could have the photocopy back but it was annoying to have to demand the surreptitious photocopy of the photocopy which was taken at check out!
- the invoices for drinks etc did not include the total cost and copies were not given to us and this made us feel a bit uneasy.

In summary, we would strongly recommend this hotel and plan to return.

I have just returned to England from my 7th visit to the Sofitel Karnak. Once again I was met with a fantastic welcome from all the staff. Everyone from the cleaners, the gardeners, receptionists, waiters, lifeguards have treated me with kindness and respect. It is not in my remit to name names, however, special mention is made with regard to the staff in Carter's bar and Moorish cafe who were unfailingly polite and obliging. The friendly lifeguards do everything to make the pool area clean and safe and are exceptionally helpful in making sure everyone has a comfortable stay by the pool. I have not found (as some other reviews comment) any problems with regard to the cleanliness of my room. My bed was changed as often as needed and towels also changed on a regular basis. My cleaner also left some nice "towel art" on my bed along with flowers. My room and bathroom were perfectly cleaned. None of my personal possessions was ever touched. This has been the case in all my visits. All in all the fact I have returned 7 seven times speaks for itself. I can't wait for my next visit.
