“Very good 4-4 1/2 star hotel in Aswan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We would rate the Mövenpick Resort Aswan a 4-4 ½ star hotel by European standards, with almost continuous boat access from Aswan to its location on Elephantine Island. It has a large pool, several shops, a lovely location with good-sized rooms overlooking the Nile, and a generous breakfast buffet. Breakfast includes an omelet station, cereals, Egyptian breakfast foods, vegetables, wonderful tomatoes, bread and sweet rolls, juices, fruits, coffee, and tea. The rooms are slightly worn; we specifically asked for robes, which were quickly provided. There is no clock or coffee/tea maker. There is a safe and unstocked refridgerator in the room. (You can ask them to stock the refridgerator if you wish.) Our room had a small terrace overlooking the Nile, a desk, TV, and a small tound table with two chairs. Access to and from the town of Aswan is provided by a ferry that seems to run continuously and takes about 5 minutes to cross the Nile. This puts the hotel within easy walking distance to the Aswan souk The scenes of the Nile, the dunes, and feluccas are gorgeous. Our reservations were recommended and arranged by our tour guide, Your Egypt Tours.

Room Tip: We had a room in the main part of the hotel facing the west and therefore western side of Elephantin...

“Terrific Stay!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

For off I stayed at the resort for two nights. This could quite possibly be the nicest hotel I have ever stayed. Combine that with the US-EGP exchange rate and you have a formula for a really inexpensive spectacular vacation. The hotel is located across the Nile from the main city. This has the advantage of keeping a lot of the hustle and noise of the city far away. A 24hr. ferry is available to taxi back-and-forth from the hotel. The ferry, runs approx. every 15 mins or so. It was never difficult to get across the Nile, even when I had to leave for my 3am day trip to Abu Simbel.

The Room
The room was large and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and clean. My room had a balcony overlooking the Nile, a great view. The rooms are up to date featuring modern upscale faucet and shower. I was thankful to find the in room safe to be large enough for all my important items. Saying I enjoyed my time in the room is an understatement.

The Food
I ordered room service for the length of my stay. The room service was terrific, the food arrived fast and everything was served at the temperature it should. Even the delicious Ice Cream was brought to the room only after I had completed my meal, a really nice gesture. I was not able to have breakfast at the buffet because of a 3am departure, but the front desk staff was kind enough to suggest a to go breakfast which was large and I am forever grateful because the road to Abu Simbel is long and the meal was more than enough to satisfy my hunger along the trip.

The Service
The front desk staff was friendly and courteous. I still recall the wonderful smiles I received upon my arrival after my long journey to Aswan by train. My luggage was handled well. They really spoil you upon your arrive. I was impressed, very impressed.

The Pool

The pool is an infinity pool overlooking the Nile. It was clean and up to date, very modern styling one of the highlights of the hotel, especially after a long day in the sand. My only complaint is the pool closes early about 7pm. And I could not figure out the towel service times.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would be staying here again if I return to Aswan.

Room Tip: I found Aswan to be remote enough to insulate it from the chaos in Cairo. The people were very frien...

“One of the best hotel I have ever been”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I must admit I do not usually choose first class hotels but I am glad I went to the Movenpick in Aswan! The room was very big with a nice terrace from which we had an amazing view of assuan, the noble tombs, the city, the desert, the nile. The tower is great, on the 13th floor you have a stunning view of Assuan while you drink a tea or just relax on one of the comfort chair, it's really an experience.
The food at the restaurant was delicious, the best food I have eaten in Egypt, I had to congratulate the chefs, I was slighly disappointed for the food I ate in Cairo, Luxor and a few other places, but here in Aswan it was perfect.
The service was great as well and I really liked the boat service that brings you to the hotel from the coast 24 hours.
I loved Aswan, a romantic city with stunning views and I will definitely go back in the next few years and I will not miss this hotel!

“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

spent 6 nights at hotel. location, rooms, service and food (especially in 13th floor Panorama restaurant)really good. Staff friendly and nothing was too much trouble. First 3 nights were in room overlooking the Nile & Corniche only problem was continuous noise from generator of an old nile cruise boat permanently moored opposite hotel. Second 3 nights were in room on other side of hotel still overlooking the Nile and Kitcheners island which is site of the Botanical Gardens absolutely gorgeous with no noise and great view highly recommended. Will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: go for room overlooking the Botanical Gardens

“Nice for a short visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I only stayed at this hotel for one night, and so my review is based on a short-term stay. Located on Elephantine Island on the Nile River, guests reach the hotel by passenger ferry. This makes for quite a secluded and safe place away from the city, which has its usual host of aggressive street hawkers.

The rooms and grounds are clean and modern, though the décor reminds me a bit of the 1960s Bob Hope movie “I’ll Take Sweden”. By this I mean that the architecture is more horizontal than vertical. This could be due to the influence of the European company Moevenpick, which before this trip I had only associated with ice cream. I was visiting this hotel in Jan 2012, and the tourist numbers were way down, so the place felt even emptier than it looked.

All I really remember about the rooms were the odd faucets in the bathroom. Call me dense, but it took me some time to distinguish the knob from the spout. And the shower stall was just plain silly with a partial glass protector, almost guaranteeing that your bathroom floor would get wet. Oh well, when in Sweden …

Dinner and the breakfast buffet were acceptable but not exceptional. There is an observation tower on the 13th floor where you can have afternoon tea and watch the sunset. The views up and down the Nile show the many tour boats that ply the waters in a typical high season. Someone told me that of the 290 cruise boats normally operating only about 10% of these were running and perhaps at only one-third or one-half capacity. So the season is bad in 2012 for the industry, but great for those of us seeing the temples and visiting the resorts.

Overall, Moevenpick Aswan is rated as a 5-star hotel but for me it felt a bit more like a 3-star place. It’s definitely one of the better hotels in Aswan, and the food is safe to eat. If you were to stay longer you’d find a beautiful infinity pool for relaxing and enjoying the sun. Also, visit the Botanical Gardens on a neighbouring island, where the grounds are very peaceful and pleasant. Ciao.
