“Simple but clean & hassle-free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We found The Hathor after looking at & rejecting several other, more expensive hotels in the area. Hathor is not fancy, but was clean, with a friendly staff, free breakfast and nearly-free internet in the lobby for your entire stay. We ended up staying longer than planned, due to a medical situation, but were made to feel welcome throughout the stay. The breakfast is not much, but it will get you started in the morning.

Rooms along the street are slightly noise, since Egyptians love to honk, but this dies down at night when you need to sleep. Roof terrace offered a great view, but pool was drained due to cool weather, so I can't comment on it.

Save your money, avoid the hassle & pissy attitudes of some of the higher priced places & give Hathor a try.

Room Tip: Stay away from the street if you are a really light sleeper, or go to bed early. Lots of honking &am...

“Super friendly staff, clean and cheap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We originally went to another hotel where we didn't care for the vibe and wandered into the Hathor. The staff was pleasant, the room clean, the view gorgous and the location perfect. Stay here, save your money from forgoing the classier places in town and spend it on something to take home. With the money we saved we both bought bedouin carpets and broke even from what we would have spent for more elegance. The Hathor is a great deal, and the AC and hot water worked well too!

“Great Budget Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Huge lounge area with internet access for only 10EP for the entire stay. Has a very nice breakfast room, friendly staff and the rooms are good, if a little on the small side, with power points and en suite bathroom. We asked for rooms on a higher floor at the front of the building, and found no noise at all. Great views across the Nile from our room.

We paid 120EP a night for the two of us, with breakfast, which was a great deal for us. We stayed for one week, as we had plenty of travel time.

Would stay here again in a flash, considering that most of the other Aswan budget options are getting to be expensive these days and tend to have a lot of young, noisy, opportunist Egyptian guys constantly hanging around the lounge areas. A couple of those hotels we visited wouldn't give us a room, because we weren't young enough, yet we saw them showing rooms to other people.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor, with Nile view - no extra charge

“Good Option in Aswan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

This hotel is fairly basic, but it is clean and has a great location on the Nile, just across the road from the Isis. I have stayed in worse. Stayed here for one night before the early start down to Abu Simbel. The hotel also provided a packed breakfast which was a nice touch. I would definitely stay here again.

Abu Simbel is well worth the effort and won't disappoint. The convoy left Aswan just before dawn which is a great experience in itself to see the desert sunrise. The crowds at the site were minimal due to the current lack of tourists in much of Egypt, and the situation right next to Lake Nasser is stunning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front, and to view the room before checking-in.

“After the Aswan ferry from Wadi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

Having overnighted on our nile cruise (Aswan ferry from Wadi Halfa ) awaiting our vehicle we rocked up to the best value hotel in Aswan .Faded glory , needing some TLC the owners share their hospitality with you.Despite its tiredness the rooms where spotless , cold a/c and the icing on the cake , a rooftop swimming pool with the best views over the Nile. The view alone would be worthy of a $150 a night hotel. Our price?110le .Breakfast was simple .Did we like this place?absolutely we ended up staying for 10 days. Our room(307) had Nile views to die for .Internet was a 1 off payment of 10le.
They even kept an eye ot for our vehicle parked outside!
