“They will abuse you”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012
3
people found this review helpful

Be warned - This hotel as of February 2012 Will rip you off in every way they can get away with.

1. If you ask to go somewhere - The receptionist yells for their taxi shark in the lobby who will say "Hello My frieeend where You going???" and he will hassle you as the worst hasslers in cairo do, if you eventually agree to take one of his

2. Taxis, they have a local cartel of straight up criminal taxi drivers standing just outside of their hotel, and they are by far the worst people i have met on my trip in cairo. They will immediatly yell at you once you exit the hotel door, then they will stalk you with a car for a bit if you try to avoid them.

If you actually walk up to them because you want a taxi trip they will insist completely on ripping you off. They refuse to turn on their taxi meter saying "we hotel taxi, you no understand?" yelling at you and being in general threatening, while they are standing together in a gang. So they will drive you nowhere unless you give in to their bullying.

They are a gang of bullies and its your only means of transportation in this evil hotel.

3. Tour guide Shark in the lobby - If you decide to use one of their tour guides in the lobby, heres what happens. He will charge you 300 LE (egyptian pound) for nothing, you believe its a trip but you will find out hes just ripped you off later. Once you agree he calls upon a driver who mumbles in horrible english, he will drop you off at a dark room with 5 egyptians who will then rip you off again to see the pyramids, they will charge you 440 for a big trip, but the big trip is as short as they can make it to rip of another one. All the while this is happening you will be surrounded, outnumbered by mean spirited and criminal bullies.

So i will sum up the lobby for you.

1. Taxi shark who will deliver you to the taxi cartel just outside the door (and they have put a block on competition, they dare not go close, one taxi driver said "he will go to hospital if he took me to pyramids").

2. Tour shark who will first rip you off, then get one of his lackeys to drive you to that dark room with criminal egyptians who will then rip you off even worse.

3. Receptionist, who will as soon as you ask for help to go anywhere, or see anything, call on either above mentioned Taxi Shark or Tour shark.

I have only one reason for choosing to write this critical piece of information, ive been there and it is even worse than i say. I havent mentioned the horrible state of the rooms everyone else mentions.

Please for your own safety and happiness stay away.

Mr. Henrik B.

Dear Mr. Henry,

Good Day from Cataract Pyramids Resort,

Kindly be informed that we have check your review and we have done the needed investigation concerning your complaint; as we care about our guest and we as a hotel management work around 24hrs to make each guest visit one of his best memories.

The result of investigation that our receptionist has assist you by:
- Writing to you the addresses that you ask for it in Arabic language
- When finding the internet service rate was high, she assist you by informing you about getting the USB internet stick from outside shop with cheaper price.
- When finding that the food and beverage price were high; she advise you for getting your beverage needs from a super market near the hotel which is against hotel policy.
- When asking for transportation she offer to you either hotel limousine or local taxi and you choose the limousine and you took a half day trip to (Pyramids – Egyptian museum – Cairo tour – and down town) for 300 LE and as you know that any hotel or private limousine anywhere is expensive and I do agree with you that it is one of the service that I usually do not recommend it for an economic trip but if you look to privacy, secure and to avoid any hassle it is the best.

Second day you choose an outside Taxi for spending the day for 100 LE and you thank the limousine for their services and told them that you have make an outside deal with only 100 LE.
Concerning the room status the receptionist mention that you have not complain from the room and we will be appreciate to know from you directly your comment about the room to do the needed as your opinion and comment are taken very seriously to mach all our guest needs.

Dear Mr. Henry we felt from your review that you passed by a terrible experience concerning the transportation issue and we would like to offre you one night free same meal plan booked with upgrade to Jr.Suite complemantry from the hotel management when visiting Egypt next time and I would like to send your booking on my below mail to do the needed arrangment for your booking. wael.latif@cataracthotels.com

From the above you will find that we really take all our guest reviews and comment very seriously and we do appreciate your reply.

“Close to Pyramids, good hotel, amazing pool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Hotel was good. Very big grounds, comfortable beds and quite a large pool. Buffet restaurant or a la carte restaurant - the food is fine in either and reasonably priced. Staff seemed nice and were helpful if we required information etc. We ended up staying in 3 rooms as we used Giza as a base to travel from. All rooms were big and one of them had two sofa's with a separate lounge area. The only bad thing I have to say is you have to get a taxi to get to the equivalent of a high street or markets (that we could find anyway) there is a shop close by though. Also the rooms we stayed in could have done with a mop of the bathroom floor and a thorough wipe of the counters but all in all the rooms were fairly clean, dust free and all linen and towels were fresh.

“Nice place...BAD service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

built on a very large area, the hotel enjoys a very nice swimming pool and a nice event hall (suitable for weddings and parties).
The hotel management though suffers from a huge lack of interest, which reflects poorly on the service and the quality of offerings.

Room Tip: a room closer to the restaurant.

“Wish we could have stayed longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

While traveling with three friends we stayed here one night. We booked an overnight tour to see the pyramids and the company we booked with had us stay here. Oh my goodness! What a beautiful resort. The rooms were great, the beds were so comfortable, and the grounds were gorgeous. We were really only there for 12 hours and we wished we could have stayed longer. We arrived around 9pm, had an easy check-in, were taken to our rooms, then walked around the property, shopped a little, and went to bed. We didn't realize the beautiful location we were in until the morning. We had a great breakfast and were then picked back up by our tour driver. I would journey back to Egypt just to stay here again!
