This hotel is situated in a built up area and is some distance from the Pyramids.
We arrived 5 hours before the 12 noon check in time ( after an 8 hour flight) and as we did not want to start immediately with a guided tour of the pyramids we asked if there was a possibility to take early occupation of the room. This was kindly arranged for 9am but still meant a 2 hour wait and unfortunately there is nothing to see in the immediate area.
Contradictory to the website description, the Great Pyramid can barely be seen from the dining room. The food served from this dining room was greasy and we were unable to sit outside on the balcony because they were renovating the chairs ( during peak season!)
The restaurant downstairs next to the swimming pool served a buffet breakfast which consisted of a selection of cheeses, yogurts, fresh fruit, pastries and a selection of cooked dishes such as bacon eggs etc which was very nice.
Although the rooms were clean and the bathrooms had marble sinks, the decor was old and the passages were strewn with litter. On the second night at this hotel we decided to skip the hotel restaurant and look for one nearby but after 10 minutes walk along a busy road we couldn't find one that looked safe to eat at and opted for the MacDonalds.
I have to admit that this was far better than the hotel that we stayed in, approximately 10 years ago in down town Cairo but that was a 3 star hotel. Most people take a guided tour of the pyramids and the sphinx and once this has been seen then there is nothing else to do in the area on your own. I would strongly suggest staying in down town Cairo near the museum where you can walk along the Nile and take a guided tour of the pyramids from there. Incidentally after our wonderful Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor we returned to Cairo and stayed at the Semiramis Intercontinental hotel overlooking the Nile for an extra $70 per person. Wow ... what a fabulous hotel..! The leap from a 4 star to a 5 star hotel is huge compared to that of a 3 star to a 4 star.
