“Cozy boutique hotel, warm atmosphere in a nice neighborhood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

Located in a relatively calm street of Zamalek, this small "hotel", located on the 4th floor of the same building where Longchamps hotel is (!), offers clean simple rooms and a warm welcome despite the cold entrance of the building. Old but clean furniture, nice bar, very kind personnel, and some interesting people living there for years! Breakfast poor. Good shower, internet free access from rooms. It reminded me of "Yaacoubian Building" novel. Make sure to meet Nabil, one adorable resident. Will definitely go there again.

“Excellent boutique hotel in a good Cairo neighborhood”

We stayed at both the Horus Hotel and, upstairs in the same building, the Longchamps hotel. If you like modern plastic hotels, they are not for you. If you like big hotels, they are not for you. But, if you like an inexpensive hotel that is cozy and familiar, you can't beat these two hotels, their meals, the service or friendly atmosphere in the common areas.

“I would stay here again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

We had a great experience at Hotel Horus. My wife and I arrived to the airport at different times and terminals as we were meeting in Cairo to begin a vacation. My wife was taken to a different hotel by a Taxi driver and told this was the Hotel she asked for. It took 24 hours to locate her after several trips back to the airport as well as use of the Hotels computer and phone. The staff were supportive and helpful in all areas of our stay. There were residents who make there home there who were very helpful as well. We stay in contact with our new friend there still today.
One must understand the "Egyptian way" and be prepared for the enviroment.
The hotel was clean, staff helpful with good value in regaurd to meals and transportation. After expriencing the rest of Cairo the hotel was a welcome site at the end of the day. Located on an island in the Niel, the hotel is in the area with the embassy's of many countries as well as private schools. As a result many of the locations around hotel had posted gards 24/7. We felt safe walking the streets even at night. The location is central to many sites we wanted to see and was in walking distance to local shops and Very good resturants because of he clientel in the area. The one thing we noticed was how Quiet it was there compared to the other hotel locations we experienced in Cairo, that was worth it after a long day of hageling for EVERYTHING!

“Basic, no-frills comfort with friendly service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

Horus House is a family establishment offering basic accommodations for a great rate. The room was clean but run-down. It offered all the necessaries, including refrigerator, TV, hair dryer, and phone. Free wifi is available in the common areas (there are a few). I was able to get online from my room with some inconsistency. Wifi is not supposed to be available in the rooms, though, so I have no complaints about the patchy service there.

The hotel lobby was a great place to spend a little downtime, with some interesting old characters always available for a chat in any number of languages. They were equally willing to leave me to read or work online as well.

The staff was friendly and helpful, even running down to the train station to book my ticket for me.

The hotel is in Zamalek, just a short taxi ride (5 EGP) to Tahrir Square, from which you can get to anywhere you need to go. Zamalek itself has some great restaurants and attractions, including the Egypt Crafts Center.

“No complaints at this friendly, family run, small hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

We came to this hotel on the recommendation of a friend and were glad to have been introduced.

This small hotel is centrally located in a small street in zamalek with easy access by taxi to all areas of cairo (although not all taxi drivers are familiar with the street).

The staff were very friendly although were not so well informed about local attractions / events.

The service in the restaurant prompt (unlike some other venues) and courteous. The choice of food was basic but more than adequate. The waiter doubled up as taxi driver and took us to the airport, charging no more than the standard rate.

The decor in the room was old fashioned but perfectly acceptable and the beds comfortable. The bathroom had a tiny bath but good shower. We had a room facing the street but the only noise to be heard was the birds singing in the morning.

If you are looking for a boutique, up market hotel, this is not the place for you but if not, then its perfectly adequate and we would not have asked for more.
