“Don't book trips or tours with Canadian Hostel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Don't be thrown off by the title of this review because this hostel is honestly not that bad. Not bad at all. BUT. Whatever you do, don't book day trips to the Pyramids at Giza with them because they will rip you off! The people working at the hostel told me that 400 pounds was a fair price for getting a camel/horse for the pyramids. When I went there the people the hostel hooked me up with had this scam where they offer you three different packages for horse/camel tours around the pyramids. Don't fall for it like I did. Tell them that you know the price in Lonely Planet says 35 pounds an hour and haggle a cheap price for the day. Realistically, I should have paid between 100 and 200 pounds. But naively, I trusted the hostel. So don't, I repeat don't book tours with them and if you do then just remember not to fall for the scam.

Room Tip: Don't be thrown off by the title of this review because this hostel is honestly not that bad. No...

“Just an average stay with no disturbance..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

If you're not one of the cleanliness freaks and on a solo backpacking trip.. then maybe this place is a good stay. Only the location (a minute from Tahrir square) is a A++. Once you get into your room, the staff does not really exist. The single room I stayed in was huge and included a bathroom, which wasn't clean either. They had only a single electric charging point that the adapter kept falling off from. But the place is peaceful. The wi-fi was superbly fast even inside the rooms. The breakfast only contains 2 pcs of bread, a cheese cube, a jam cube, one boiled egg and a tea or coffee. For the money, maybe there are better places at Tahrir, but I just love the location and the wifi. Stay date - 5th Oct-7th Oct 2011.

Room Tip: Check the bathroom of any hotel first. Its a great way to tell what cleanliness means to the hotel s...

“It's the best hostel in Cairo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Let me be clear with my title: don't get your hopes up that hotels and hostels are nice or clean when you're going to Cairo unless you're spending less than 150 dollars per night. I traveled with 9 friends and we made reservations for another hotel in which we stayed only one night. Then, we went to Canadian. This hostel was great. Room and mattress was great, breakfast was tasty and they even organized an inexpensive tour to Giza where we met the greatest tour guide and also my trip to the airport. Don't look around for a hostel, just go to this one. It was recommended to us by a friend and we didn't listen to him.

The only thing that pissed me off is that even tough there's an elevator in the building, people from the hostel can't use it. Thank goodness the hostel is on the first floor!!!

You have to pay to use their computers but WI FI is free.

“You Can Find Better For Your Money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2011

The evening staff is very kind and helpful.
The day time staff is a different story. The skinny balding guy who smokes is not considerate and he will book your tours without confirming with you first. ....Don't let the soft voice fool you. He can be a real piece of work.

There were ROACHES in the bathrooms and in the bedrooms. They say there is breakfast. That amounts to a roll, two half boiled eggs, and a cup of tea. They also advertise, on the website, that they give city maps to their guests. Ask them for one. They will act like they don't know what you're talking about.
