“It's cheap, it's well-located, it's clean. It's not very comfortable, though.”

We spent one night here between flights in mid January. The location is great for getting to the Egyptian Museum. The rooms were clean, and we were able to get wifi in most of the room. There was breakfast in the morning, and there was a definite feeling of security in the room. We had our own bathroom with a shower, which was also very clean. There was even a balcony. Large, heavy shades darkened the room so that light was not a factor. It was even quiet by Cairo standards. I thought the people were all very friendly.

The only problem I had with the room is that the beds were not very comfortable. They had seen their share of use, and then some. My son at one point thought there was something wrong with the bed - it was just a spring pushing up at a thin point in the cushioning.

Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a clean, cheap, room that is well-located and run by nice people. It's not fancy. It's not decorated. But for a night in Cairo, it works very well.

“Lovely old hotel in great location!”

This was a very clean and actually lovely hotel in an old building in downtown Cairo. It is just off Midan Talab Harb, so it is very convenient to everything. The Egyptian Museum is within walking distance, as well as good places to eat, and shop. The price is very reasonable.

While it does not have the usual communal area for a backpacker hotel, the staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are spotless with a nice bathroom, AC, balcony, tile floors, tall ceilings, and free WiFi in your room...not only in the lobby! There is also a computer to use (for a fee) and they have a great driver/guide, Said, for tours of the city.

I would recommend it for couples, backpackers, & single travelers.

“You get what you pay for!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

I chose this hotel due to the very cheap prices. i am a seasoned traveler and have been all over the world on a budget. therefore i all ways choose the hotels that allow me to spend more on the experiences that i get in that country.
the rooms are basic but provide all that you require. i dont spend much time in my room when away and like to experience the country as much as possible outside four walls any way! it was very warm during my stay and the air conditioning provided some much needed relief during the night. i found the staff helpful and offered some very useful advice regarding where to eat and meet other people.
the location is fantastic. it is very central, the egyptian museum, metro station and nile are all within a 5 minute walk. there are also shops, places to eat and coffee shops every where. i loved the after eight coffee shop which is across the road. i really enjoyed drinking tea smoking a sheesha and playing dominoes with a friend made at the hotel.
the manager provided me with detailed information on the tours that he organizes. although i had already arranged a stay in luxor myself through a friend i did book a tour to the pyramids in giza. it was good value and i did barter as is the custom to get a slightly reduced rate.
altogether i would definitely stay at the hotel again. it is far better than some hotels/hostels that i have stayed in. yes sometimes you have to ask for something but i never got told no and appreciated the little things like the tea that is offered to me when im on there free internet for over an hour!

“AAAAAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2010

I have lived and traveled in both India and Egypt for over six years and stayed in a all types of accommodation and this is the worst.

Unlike the other reviewers, I didn't get a bin so rubbish just accumulated on the floor. There was no wifi that was functional for me. When I fought for my towel, I was given one that was wet in places and was definitely used. They just laughed when I asked for another towel.

There is NO security at this hotel as there is nobody on the desk most of the time.

My earplugs were not strong enough to keep out the screaming children running up and down the hallway (relatives of the owner) until about 1.30 in the morning or the sound of the water pump in the utilities shaft that was outside my window that didn't close.

For the right price, I am not fussy. But I would not stay here if it was free.

“Good thing it's close to the museum...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2007

This hostel is in a dirty/cheap part of Cairo, but is close to the Egyptian Museum. The owner is a little creepy and for the first night stuck me in accomodations far worse than I paid for. Then when he transferred me to the room I actually did book on the internet, he is trying to get more money - so I am a little frustrated right now. Breakfast is not good, so bring extra fruit, granola bars, etc., And you will have to beg for a towel which comes with the room... The good thing is that there is free internet (which I am using right now!) ;-) Good luck.
