Yes; it is one of the cheapest rooms in Cairo and yes it is in a very central location. Rooms were clean and the owner was welcoming at first. But then the sales pitch begins. Very pushy of low quality, over priced deals. I paid over the odds for a trip to the pyramids because I was told I would avoid the other touts and see more stuff. My driver was surly and uninterested. Predictably he started looking for his commissions immediately with trips to perfume shops, papyrus shops and crappy restaurants. To be expected I suppose - the worst part were the hours spent waiting in a stables in Giza for horse/camel rides. That done (to be fair, pretty amazing) we were supposed to see the sunset and light show but I was told this would be impossible and we would have to return to Cairo. I took them at their word but after waiting for several hours to see nothing was a little annoyed. As I had paid extra to stay later, once back in Cairo I asked Mustafa at the hostel to refund me the extra money I'd paid for a service he'd been unable to provide. He agreed that I was justified to ask but refused. I found the general atmosphere at the Lialy to be similar to this story; desperate to make the extra buck at the expense of any customer satisfaction. If you are looking for the cheapest night in a good location, fair enough, but be prepared to be unpleasantly hounded for your last cent. Welcome to Egypt!
