“king tut will open the doors of egypt to you”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

THIS IS A small hostel in downtown Cairo, a place that never sleeps. It is very modest but correct and well situated, and the owner can advise and propose different plans for continuing your trip throughout Egypt according to your wishes and budget. Afit is a genius of the travel agency. We had little time and money and made a wonderful trip visiting the main places to see thanks to his ideas. If you are not too concerned about comfort, we strongly recommend king tut

“King Tut Hostel? Can't say Pharoah than that!”

When visiting Cairo, I could not have envisaged that one of the best aspects of Egypt and Cairo for that fact would be hidden inside the busy streets of downtown Cairo.

The King Tut hostel was a clean, tidy and extremely hospitable environment with the owner giving myself and my partner a fantastic deal on 3 city trips with a driver everyday and our own personal tour guide. The first around Cairo to Giza Pyramids, the Bazaar, a dinner cruise on our last evening and a Nile side Lunch for two days, the second in Luxor with a night train exprience, an exclusive look at the Luxor and Thebes temples, a tour of the Valley of the Kings and a fantastic Hot Air Balloon trip over the Valley of the Kings. Finally we headed further south to Hurghada for a snorkelling session in the Red Sea. All for under £300.

Back to the Hostel, as I walked towards the entrance I was awe struck with the replica head mask of the young boy King, Tutankhamun. It really set me in the mood for an adventure and a trip to remember. The interior walls were decorated with an artistic cover of King Tut's chamber discovered in the Valley Of the Kings.

The front counter was always on hand to let us check in and check out, help us out with insightful information and were always friendly and polite.

Every morning, we were invited into the owner's breakfast room for an authentic Egyptian meal including mint teas, fig jam and hand made bread.

In closing, I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone seeking good value for money on accommodation and outside trips.

King Tut - Thank you!

“No thanks”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2010

I stayed at the King Tut hostel in march, while stopping over in Cairo. Initially it seemed ok, the manager gave me a welcome drink, then started trying to sell me tours. As i was tired after arriving late in the evening, i said i would think about them and discuss it the next day. I woke up in the morning and straight away he was on me again. Not really want i want when on holiday.
The rooms were dirty and beds don't have sheets, just a very dirty fleece- which resulted in my legs being covered in bed bug bites.
The location is good, but so noisy at night it's impossible to get any sleep.
The staff were actually pretty pleasant and tried to help out as much as they could... but obviously because money was involved.

Cairo for me was not a pleasant experience and i would not rush back in a hurry. If you insist on going and want somewhere cheap to sleep, King Tut is fine... if you can spare a bit more money, choose somewhere else!

“Couldn't be happier with the King Tut!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

If you're looking for an inexpensive, clean, no-frills place to stay right in downtown Cairo, I would whole-heartedly recommend the King Tut. My partner and I booked a double room, but when we had to change our plans to add another person (long story!) a couple days into the trip, the King Tut guys said "no problem." They served us breakfast every day and they offered free wi-fi. They helped us book drivers and various activities, but only when we inquired specifically.

When we wanted to take a couple days in Aswan, we asked if we could leave most of our luggage at the King Tut because we were planning on coming back, and they said "no problem." The guys working there are all very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a little loud due to all the traffic noise, but that's not really their fault. We got a room with a private bathroom, and the shower took some getting used to (you need to accept the fact that the whole bathroom floor will be a big puddle when you're done) but everything worked and they gave us extra toilet paper and towels when we asked. It's not a fancy place, but for the price, we were very happy with the accommodations and service.
