“Awful place to stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

I made a friendly trip to Cairo with a group of colleagues in Mar-07. One of my friends booked @ the President Hotel. We expected it to be a 4 star, but when we landed we just found that there are 4 golden stars in reception and they showed it and said that they got 4 star certification, haha was a joke. The quality was not even close to a 2 star hotel, rather there should not be any rating. Rooms are awfully small and more like a dormitory. Rooms are not clean and the service standards are really bad.
Regret for the delay in this post, but just wanted to make sure I write about my experience. I suggest travel community to be careful before choosing President Hotel.
Our only consolation factor was ATB Holidays, who gave us some flexible package and good advice to visit/not to visit places. It was a short trip and they packed our trip with lot of activity + time for ourselves.

“a good hotel but to far from the city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

hotel president is located in zamalek the nile island in the diplomatic area. so for first: it is to far from the bursting city. second: if you are traveling on your own there are no shops close to the hotel, for a busy street you have to walk about 30 minutes.
the staff is friendly, the rooms we had were clean. on our first night we /3 traveles/ got 3 very noisy rooms /from outside ventilation/, but after complaining in the morning all of us got new, quite rooms. i can not answer the question why we did not get the quite rooms from beginnig, as the hotel was nearly empty....
breakfast was simple, coffee was bad, but the dinner was good.
not far / 10 min walk/ from the hotel several restaurants and a bar.
because of the distance to the city i would prefer a different hotel next time i visit cairo.

“stinky bed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2011

I would not recommend this hotel, first the stinky bed, smells like they did not change it for so many years, even the closet, smells like dirty laundry. In toilet, they dont have a complimentary toiletries. When we ask the bell boy if they have a tooth brush because we forgot to bring one, they didnt know what toothbrush is (oh gosh!) and also the lock, you cannot have a privacy because the door is partialy open even when locked. Carpet smells like used snickers.

Definitely not recommend this hotel, find some place to stay where you can really relax and sleep with no worries.

“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2011

We stayed here one night because the lights went out in our apartment. We were quoted one price over the phone, then upon dragging all our luggage to the hotel, we were given a higher price. They wouldnt accomodate a late check out.
The room was filthy, and old. There was no heating, but they bought an old raggedy heater on request. The sheets smelled like cigarretes. The bathroom was leaking, and the reception didnt want to be bothered. The toilet flush didnt work,THere was what appeared to be small hairs on the towels that were also filthy. They gave us the wrong password for the internet and didnt want to be bothered with giving it again. the staff members in general were rude and unnaproachable.
There was one helpful staff member named Marianne who was kind, and courteous, but otherwise, this was an AWFUL stay. will never come back.

“Good value, location and very pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

The hotel is well placed, central, calm and safe. The staff as always, friendly and helpful. My stay was during the run-up to and unfolding of the protests and effective shut-down of commerce, and it should be said that despite their worries and privations, the staff behaved with exemplary consideration to all. Rooms are adequate for the price. If we’re being picky they could do with some small maintenance, a lick of paint, a broken chair replacing, etc. But in central Cairo, at these prices, what's to worry? They are clean and functional.
The bar on the 11 floor has a great view but little has been done to capitalise on this. But a nod of appreciation to the excellent bartender who works hard to make you feel welcome in any event. Take a beer and you are offered substantial tapas, which is a nice touch. The restaurant next to it however is missing a great opportunity and is frequently empty. The kitchens can produce limited but tasty food but there are many good competing restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast is rudimentary and those tell-tale signs of management abandonment show as half the tables are without cups, no teaspoons anywhere and suchlike. It’s no big deal, you just raid another table and use a fork handle to stir.
There is Wifi in the Bar and Reception area; not in the rooms unless your room is near the bar. This may be a downer if you have business work to do. If TV in the evening is something you like…well, in my room it was poorly tuned in but there are international channels.
With all the turmoil now depressing tourism, I think maybe small criticisms should be brushed aside, and I would definitely give my support to this hotel in future.
Thank you President staff!
