I stayed at maadi hotel from the 7th aug 07 midnight arrival to the 11th aug 07, with a late checkout an hour past noon. Upon arrival everything was ready and waiting for me.Service from the receoption was swift and polite, i didnt have to stand and wait. My luggage which was on the large size was taken up to my room on the 11th floor. The bell boy was very polite and talkative which is always good in my eyes.
The room was definitly big enough for one person, nice double size bed, tv , mini fridge , clean bathroom and excellent clean up efforts from the 2 well mannered ladies who worked to tidy the dirty bed sheets, not that i needed it done daily as i was out most of the day time and well into the night.
Staff overall are very freindly and helpfull. No problems being a female traveller.I didnt face any disturbance and the security guards were polite also. The rooms are newly updated with electronic security boxes in the room.
Many thanks to the mananger for his help and arrangements.
I recommend this hotel to anyone who need a clean, safe plce to stay. Traveller, Older couples, young couples passing through cairo on a few days touring around or the odd person like myself meeting up with family and freinds. Women dont worry its safe, i didnt suffer any harasment or rude gestures from anyone in the hotel or the surrounding area.
Merci wa barak Allah feek.

“4 Stars minus 3”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2007

The hotel lobby looked ok but had a terrible cigarrete smell. The lift up to my room seemed pretty new, so I kept my fingers crossed hoping my room would be good.
Once the door was opened, my heart sank! The door latch wasn't working, the fridge wasn't working and the tv wasn't working.
The toilet was horrendous and the water dripped. The bedsheet was dusty and the room had a terrible odour. One of the bed mattress was even sinking in the middle.
The breakfast was pathetic. I can't imagine they let the coffee powder exposed to air, meant to be used by the customers during breakfast. The dinner was always rice with kebab and very salty soup.

The only good things are there is a supermaket called ALFA nearby which sells a whole lot of stuffs and there is a House of Donuts nearby for donut lovers.

Never ever going to stay there.

“Started and finished our holiday at the Maadi”

The Maadi is an OK hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great view from rooftop. Rooms clean and tidy.

The pool is not the cleanest but was fine.

The food was not great. Breakfast was a bit grim but lunch and dinner were Ok - but very slow.

Location is a bit far from centre of cairo but safe and 2 minute walk to the Nile.

View of the Pyramids from rooftop makes up for a lot.

Beware - you will be woken by the call to prayer at dawn. Very atmospheric and an amazing welcome to Egypt!

“4 Star hotel maybe 10 years ago”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2007

I dont know how the hotel manage to get 4 stars because the place is a little tired and the stale smell from the carpet just makes you miserable after a while.

We stayed at the 14th floor for 1 night and it was really bad. everything was literally in pieces and we were lucky we were just really tired.

On our last 2 day back to cairo we went back to the hotel this time on the 8th floor. The room was definetely better than the 14th floor but the stale smell was still very prominent. My frds had a room facing the mosque however the prayers call was bearable for a Friday and not too loud than what we have imagined.

Hot water from the tap came out with a brownish colour so that is to be take note off.

Breakfast was tragic save for the crossiant. It was might as well since most of the guests seems not to have much appetite. The waiters and servers kept theirselves busy sneaking bites from the buffet table.

Overall, I would try not to stay here again.

Get water from the petrol kisok just behind the hotel. The shops ards the hotel just tries to rip you off when they know you are tourists.

“4 Stars - NO WAY !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2006

o.k, I don't like to be negative but this place was a shocker. Being a 4 star hotel we expected some standards. Not only is Maadi old and rundown but it's just plain dirty !
The room wasn't a bad size but was very basic and the reception on the T.V was appalling. The bathroom wasn't clean (just grubby - mould on shower curtain etc) and the carpet and other fixtures were also old and generally not clean.
We were in a room on the 4th floor facing the street and our fist night was the end of Ramadan - of course there was a Mosque directly opposite our room and we were woken at 4.20am not by the usual 10 min muster ,but by 2hrs of worship !! It sounded like the guy was in our room with a megaphone ! Now technically this is not the hotel's fault but wouldn't you think they'd say to themselves upon checkin "well this couple has a 2yr old so we'll put them on the 15th floor at the back so the noise is minimised" ??
I put two bags of washing in for cleaning and some of the whites came back dirtier than when I sent them ! Further, one of my husband's dark green t-shirts had bleach marks all over a sleeve and the back.
The breakfast was truly horrible. I'm sure it was prepared the night before. There was no toaster, the scrambled eggs were dry and rubbery and the mashed potato had large uncooked chunks all through it ! Even worse, it was exactly the same menu all 3 days ! the only edible things were the croissants and some sliced cheese - everything else was vile.
If all this wasn't bad enough, the pool was so filthy I refused to swim in it - it had slime all over the floor and dust and debris floating on the top. We asked for the pool to be cleaned but our request was ignored.
People, my best advice is to steer well clear of this 2 star (being generous !) establishment.
