This is a fairly old hotel and has definitely seen better days. Having said that, the hotel is still in fairly good condition. The lobby is large and well appointed, the restaurant at the top of the hotel where breakfast is served is beautiful and overlooks the Nile. The breakfast offers a wide variety of food and is very good, as is the service. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The room that we had was no smoking with a large bed and a Nile view...exactly as reserved. The room was fairly large but the furniture was certainly dated. Having said that, the bed was comfortable and the sheets were smooth. The tv was an old style but it offered several english speaking channels. When we first walked into the room on a few occasions, we noticed a slight odor, possibly from the air conditioning or the humidity...not sure. But after a minute, it was unnoticeable. The location of this hotel cannot be beat. The museum is just around the corner, sightseeing boats are across the street and restaurants on the other side of the Nile are within a 10-15 minute walk or a very short taxi ride. Taxis are extremely cheap. The taxi to those restaurants was no more than 10 EGP, which is about $2. Apparently this hotel is closing in January for renovations and re-opening as a Ritz Carlton. Should be something special then, but in the meantime, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
