“Good Overall”

I was quite impressed with Westin Chosun during our first stay there few years ago, that's why we went back again. Our second stay was also a pleasant one - friendly & polite staff, helpful concierge, great location. However, despite the newly renovated public areas, this hotel obviously pales when comparing to the modern & luxurious 5-star hotels all over Asia. We got a very good rate this time, so I assumed we had the most "standard" room. Our room was decent, though a bit tired & small. I was slightly turned off when I saw stains on the carpet and the sofa when I entered the room. The hotel was undergoing renovation on the 9th floor during our stay and our room was on the 10th. We heard drilling noises but didn't bother us too much since we were out during the day. Also, no free in-room Wifi but you can get some free Wifi in the hotel's public areas. This hotel is a nice choice if you get a good rate.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from renovation-in-progress floors, currently the 9th floor.

Thank you very much for your comments - as you could see we have completed our Public Areas renovation and started also to improve our room product. The Westin Chosun Seoul is a 40 year old property and obviously does not have the opulence of new, modern glass facade hotels which you find nowadays all over China.
I am please to know that you found our associates to be friendly and Polite and the Concierge department provided all inforamtions you needed
with kind regards

“Perfect for coffee drinkers, swimmers, party people”

Nothing really to complain about in this hotel, it is good Westin standard, has a nice 25m pool that you can actually swim laps in, and the rooms are large, clean, quiet, and come with a Nespresso machine and two capsules per night. Much of Seoul, including night life, is in walking distance. A room with hardwood floor would have been neat, but forget about the upgrade unless you are willing to pay top KRW.

“Great spot - great food”

Not a cheap hotel but the location was perfect with a quick stopover in Seoul. We used the Korean Air Limo bus to transfer and it stops off at the hotel so was easy and cheap to get there. The Limo bus is very comfortable with big reclining seats by the way.

The hotel is as you might expect at the price it charges. Very well appointed in all public spaces as well as the rooms. Very well styled. Excellent staff (conceirge, porters and reception all good). Breakfast in the top floor business lounge was good but was expecting more.

The grill restaurant on the ground floor is excellent. Service and food quality very good.

The location is very good for shopping but also near some good tourist spots.

Good views from the high floors

“One of the Best Hotels in The World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I've stayed at the Westin Chosun many times starting in 1995. With the recent renovation it's really one of the most nicely decorated hotels in the world. I personally don't like ornate, flowery places. So the Westin, modern, sleek style suits me well.

The newly renovated gym is also outstanding. There are a number of choices for restaurants in the hotel including the buffet. The executive lounge offers a nice breakfast and happy hour. You can basically eat your evening meal there.

The Westin Chosun is also located within walking distance of probably 100 casual and elegant restaurants. If you like Korean Barbeque, there's one located across the street from the Lower Level entrance that's very casual but authentic and clean.

The staff is incredibly welcoming and helpful. The rooms are all modernly appointed with a great selection of TV channels and great amenities.

You cannot go wrong with this hotel even at the slightly higher prices.

“Spoilt her birthday”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We went in celebration of my wife's birthday which was spolied to a large extent by my poor choice of hotel, how was I to know ? .. now you know :)

Pros:

Staff - friendly, helpful
location - especially if you want to go shopping, thought restuarant choice locally was less than average though.
Common areas - lobby etc. well maintained and serviced.

Cons:
room was very tired e.g. tide marks in the bathroom, water damage on the floor, print on TV remote control worn away.
club / business is not 'so exclusive', IMO this is not a business hotel. We were on a Club Floor and surrounded people with either bad manners / no understanding of social etiquette (so you have to question why does the hotel attract this type)
breakfast - poor selection, over crowded breakfast areas. We had to queue / wait to be seated, then poor selection made poorer as it ran out .. and closed at 10 on a Sunday

The hotel is undergoing renovation so it is possible some of the cons will be corrected in time, however I would suggest that the work has quite some way to go.

I spend a lot of my life in 5 star hotels (work related travel) and so my judgement may be swayed by having stayed in quality hotels. I noted on some travel sites that the Westin Chosun is 4 or 4.5 star, 4 star is about right. I imagine the hotel was built in the 80's / early 90's and frankly is struggling to compete with more modern efficient hotels e.g. elevators are slow and massively under capacity (though I have noticed this problem throughout Korea, not an Otis to be seen).

If I'd paid the rack rate I would be fuming, as it stands I find it a waste of my Starwood points.

Room Tip: we stayed in 1722 .. it is a tired room. If smokers offend, it seemed to be tolerated despite being...
