“If you're expecting a five-star stay, you may end up disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Aesthetically, this hotel boasts an old fashioned 1930's sense of luxury which is as classy as it is dated; in my mind it encapsulates the very essence of refinement in the great depression which is only appropriate, as the longer I stayed there-the more I wanted to bury my head in pillows never to emerge again.

The walls are paper-thin between rooms, so unfortunately for myself, I was subject to muffled sounds of unspeakable horror on my first night. Thankfully the couple checked out the next day.

Eventhough the staff members are quite friendly, the hotel and it's policies reflected a sense of providing the least they could whilst still retaining a five-star status.

The amenities are within walking distance, but during Winter, they may as well be on a different planet. I advise catching a cab/subway to either coex mall (Samseong stn) or Gangnam Station for a decent look around.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very good hotel; but going there with a 5-star expectation will serve only to disappoint.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel

“Good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I always come here when I am in Seoul, the hotel is easy to reach with the shuttle bus of the airport, the service is very good, the people extremely friendly and professional.
For people playing golf there is also a driving range!
The gym is good, always quite busy, and the swimming pool is quite and most of the time empty.
The restaurant for breakfast is ok and the selction wide, may be not one of the best, but the quality high.

“First Trip to Asia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. This being my first trip to Asia and specifically Seoul South Korea I was a little nervous. Especially around the language barrier as I cannot speak any Korean. However when I got to the hotel at midnight after 22 hours of traveling I was happy to be at my hotel. It seemed like when I got here the hotel staff already knew my name. The bus let me out on the street and the hotel entrance sits back off the street on a slight uphill incline. Well the bus boy came running out in the freezing cold to help me with my luggage.I don't even know how he could have seen me. So the next day I head for the complimentary breakfast in Club Horizon on the top floor(turns out till Jan 29, 2012 the breakfast is on the lobby level) and it freaking ROCKS! It is a huge spread of typical american fare(eggs, bacon, donuts etc....), then I saw what I consider European style meats etc...., then I saw (what I assume to be typical Korean fare) like kimchi, noodles etc.... Oh and like the great front desk staff the staff at the breakfast were fantastic. Friendly and very attentive. I really look forward to going there inthe mornings just for the staff(and the food ;)

Some of the other reviewers noted that the room looked a little dated. I agree but its very clean and very comfortable. Its not like there are luggage scrape marks on the walls or the the furniture is falling apart. It has everything I need and even has more than 10 english speaking channels on the TV. As opposed to Germany which had 2 and one was BBC financial news. Same with the bathroom, its very clean and meets my needs on a business trip. Sink height is a little low but who cares. Oh BTW they have western toilets and toilet paper on a roll.

As for the location, there are plenty of stores, bars restaurants within walking distance.

I only gave the hotel a 4 out 5 on the value rating because my first couple of nights the rate was pretty high I think because it was sold out and I booked last minute.

I may have to come back to Seoul in Febuary and if I do I will definitly stay at this hotel.

As I mentioned in my first sentence of this review I cannot say enough great things about this hotel and would recommend it to anyone staying in Seoul.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back of the hotel are probably quieter because of the large road out front

“"Tired..."”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We enjoyed two different visits her during our recent S.E. Asia trip, we overnighted one night on our way to Singapore, staff upgraded us to a corner suite, it was terrific. We felt great about the property, great breakfast in the restaurant on the top, as part of being Marriott Gold members. Evening cocktails in the lounge were great. Great business location. We were treated to the SAME ROOM on our return, staying three nights. Property is showing age, furnishings are worn and image is dark and not the best image for a Renaissance.

Room Tip: Great property for business travelers, main downtown in the new district.

“Best Concierge Services”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

I stayed in this hotel on the weekend. A lot of Marriott properties have very limited concierge services available for premium members on weekends but not here. The lounge is open all the time. Services include breakfast, evening hor dovores and deserts. Alos complimentary beverages including beer/wine and some hard liquor. There is a helpful assistant there all the time.
In addition this is a first class hotel for business, reliable internet. The fitnesss facilites are top rate and take over the entire second floor. Including a Korean style bath, huge indoor swimming pool and top-rate fitness facilitites. The locaton on the south side of the Han River is convieniently located near the subway. Don't forget to use the airport shuttle bus to go to the airprort (about $15 when a taxi is at least 3 times as much).
